M1A2 SEPv4: Early Warning Provisions

Hes not to far off with ARAT 2 being in accurate, its meant to stop EFPS and tandem HEAT warheads. This mainly came since the Iraqis would set up EFP’s to hit incoming vehicles which even most armor types would be defeated including K5 and ARAT 1.

The round disks or “roof shingles” are meant to detonate the TANDEM charge then the ERA takes care of the Chemical part or the HEAT charge.

The interesting thing i find in game is that K5 stops sabot all the time in game while ARAT 1 and 2 are both newer and better yet it doesn’t reflect that in game.

They make the ERA to Specific standards/requirements, and the ERA is pretty standard.
the Busk 3 ERA on the Current A3/A4 bradleys is equal to ARAT 1, both are stanag level 6 KE protection (120mm KE and 900mm CE protection) the only exception is busk 3 is newer and is also rated for some tandem charges kinda like Arat 2, unlike the thinner/lighter Busk 1 found on (M2/M3)A2s and the early (M2/M3)A3s.
Obviously their are limits, it can stop a korenet or Vicker, but NOT a Korenet EM2s or Khrizanthmas. And while it is shock insensitive to 30mm and under APDS fire, being struck with 35mm AC fire is iffy, and 40mm and up WILL set off the tiles.
so in the case of getting lit up by a 40mm or 57mm, the ERA will stop the 1st round (when combined with the vehicles own armor), detonate then leave you vulnerable to follow up shots, and since those are auto cannons they will come quick. Things like 76mm AC fire and larger MBT darts will just overpen the whole ERA+base armor array on the 1st round, so youre dead anyway.
But i digress…

Here is the people who make the Brat and Strat ERA talking about its features and protection levels.
https://www.rafael-usa.com/programs/armor/

SRAT Medium ERA and the older BRAT 1 is generally thinner, and lighter, and offers 1 grade lower protection (stanag level 5), than the current Stanag 6 Arat1/busk3. So BRAT 1/SRAT only provides 80mm KE and 600mm CE protection form should fired LAT and 25mm light autocannon protection.

Btw if you dont know the stanag protection levels, see this: STANAG 4569 - Wikipedia
This is how you get KE protection level info.
You need to know the Pen of the rounds they are rated to stop (which we do, especially in the case of stanag level 5 the bushmaster 1 M791 has about 80mm pen). From there you can apply the pen to the ERA/Armor and you have your stats for protection levels.

Useless for game. M830A1 still best option

No it isn’t it combines all those rounds into one. So u can have a round for helis/planes/drones, light vehicles and multisams. And it’s just cool to have a new round.

No proximity fuze = useless without IRST.

yeah about that… the irony is:
All M1A2s and up have that feature since 1992 when they came out with the M830A1 and the A2.
i think the USMC also got the feature with the M1A1 Digital model, and all future ones.

it was an upgrade for the FCS, it also tracks ground targets too.
M1s Prior to the M1A2 did not have that feature though, and relied on a wonky FCS that moves the sights to give you lead for the target, resulting in you needing to relaze or dump auto lead often with targets changing speed or direction.
thankfully that was also addressed with the A2s.

This is also why the modern bradleys and things like the M10 booker have the auto track… though ironically because it got canceled, they never ended up finishing the down scaled 105mm AMP round.

But i digress. anyway the whole reason they even made the M830A1 was to target helis, and it wouldnt have been very useful if you couldnt lock them with the FCS, which is why they did the upgrades…
The fact they knew they would be losing penetration vs just keeping the older M830 and they were fine with that, should tell you just how desired squeezing that 1 feature on to the new M830A1 shell was.

Sure, you can try to report it.

My mistake thought it had proxy fuze as they “combined” all those rounds into one.
