The Machbet needs longer detection and recognition ranges because it primarily uses Stingers, which have a much bigger reach than the Vulcan cannon.
For the IMI Super Vulcan those distances are a bit short but somewhat acceptable, unless they use APDS.
Upgrade of what? Tracking radar has only been replaced with a passive tracker. 7.7 is completely fair for such a small upgrade.
Hmmm if you wanting the PIVADS why don’t you go and support the PIVADS suggestiong ?
Why are you trying to prevent other nations from getting something just because it is not a vehicle you wanted for your tech tree? Bizarre .
Copy paste is bad, wether PIVADs is in Warthunder or not.
This isn’t copy paste, it’s a unique modification by thailand. Perfect for 7.3 or even 7.7.
Copy paste is perfect for not being added. Japan of all nations does not need this.
No 7.3 SPAA exists in japan, therefore they do need this. As I stated it is obviously not copy paste.
I wonder if AWX 1978 with no search radar, no APDS, and slower Type 61 hull would be suitable for 7.7 then?
Or if Gaijin adds the Super Vulcan at 7.7 because of the APDS, then AWX 1978 could be an 8.0 with APDS to compensate, although it would not have a lineup unless Thailand can offer one.
It’s copy paste. Just because it’s Thai doesn’t mean it’s not copy paste. American vehicles don’t belong in the Jap tree.
Machbet without stingers, so a better Hovet then
I don’t understand why people are fighting over the PIVADS and the Super Vulcan.
These are two similar but also very different system.
The PIVADS takes what the original M163 was to news standards with its improved electronics and radar, while the Super Vulcan completely changes how target acquisition and tracking works (radar tracking vs. optical tracking). There is room for both systems, with their strengths and weaknesses.
Regarding ammunition, this is completely up to Gaijin. Even the Machbet, which sits at 9.3, could use APDS, yet it is still stuck with standard AP/HE belts.
How is it a copy-and-paste if the upgraded vehicle replaces its obsolete tracker radar with a modern electro-optical sight? I don’t see this optic on the original M163, so it can’t be a direct copy-and-paste, right?
Also, if you’re going to argue why Japan doesn’t need it, at least provide some reasoning. Simply saying it’s a copy-and-paste vehicle (which, again, it isn’t) is not a reasonable justification.
Besides, Gaijin has already been filling gaps with actual copy-and-paste vehicles. Perhaps you haven’t noticed the ones in the Japanese tree, like the M24, M4A3E8, M47, or the recent M44, just to name a few. Now those are complete copy-and-paste additions, as they’re the exact same vehicles found in the U.S. tree and a few others, offering nothing new.
This vehicle is no different from the two upgraded Thai F-5s already in the air tree—the FCU and SCU. They’re upgraded versions of the existing F-5 from other trees. I’m not trying to change your opinion or make you agree that this vehicle deserves to be added. I just want to point out that, if the Thai ground tree is introduced, this vehicle will almost certainly be added. So, it’s better to be prepared!
Also, excuse me @UnknownVariable for replied to the wrong person.
Maybe. It’d have to be as bad as the Yenisei though, and not sure if the lack of search radar would be enough. At least 8.0 is definitely possible though.
It has been modified by Thailand and cannot be found in any other nation, therefore:
Did he just create his account last week ?
The JGSDF literally existed from American made equipment. What are you even talking about ?
Unfortunately we are dealing with a professional troll.
And uh who exactly did Japan buy military equipment from after ww2? Oh right the US
Hold on. My precious boy machbet can use apds?
Any bug report on it too?
Pangolin_fan?
Yeah, he is just a bit «different»
There are no secondary or primary sources that Gaijin would accept, since the Machbet is still surrounded by mystery.
But two things would indicate that the Machbet could use APDS.
-
A serviceman confirmed that the Phalanx system in the Israeli Navy has access to 20mm APDS, so such ammunition is available in the country.
-
The official page of the Machbet on the IAF website states that the gun has a max range of 3.5km
This, of course, is a theoretical limit, but it can only be achieved with APDS and no AP.
Spoiler
I am always digging for more on the Machbet but no official document will be available until 2040+.
Then we will never see the mach with apds, gaijin only takes info of paper prototypes or service action, machbeth its no longer in service so its over.
