HISTORY
Picture is taken by Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk outside their facilities, before the later upgrade

The development of the M109 began in January 1952 after a conference wich took place in Washington, where the topic was self-propelled artillery. There was a need for a vehicle to replace the 155mm M44

The first prototype T195 appeared in 1959. after two more prototypes which all underwent some testing, production of the M109 was started in 1962

The M109 has undergone many modernizations over the years. The latest is version M109A6 Paladin, which is/was only in use in the USA

In 1969, 126 self-propelled 155mm howitzers were acquired from the USA (BMY), these were assembled at Kongsberg Våpenfabrikk. Norway chose the German version of the M109G vehicle. This has a wedge mechanism on the barrel, the American version has a screw mechanism. In 1986, the HFK (Army Supply Command) began modernization of the existing 155 mm gun (skyts), the main part of modification consisted of changing to a longer 39 caliber gun barrel (set that is, the gun barrel is 39 times 155mm long, 6.05m). The first 2 shooters (skyts) were modified in Germany, the rest at NFT in Narvik. The hulls were overhauled at Namek in Narvik, while Bjerkvik Tekniske Verksted took care of the drivetrain. The vehicle was now designated M109A3GN.

In 2005 the Norwegian army’s stock of these artillery vehicles were grreatly reduced, still maby of them, bot the L/23 and L/39 verisons were in service for a long time afterwards, before they eventually was taken out of service and put in storage, most due to the K9 Thunder replacing them. In the recent time the m109 wagons have been donated to Ukraine. Further fate unknown

This vehicle is of the Short barreled verison, L/23
Further specifications of the ammunition will be provided, so will the Norwegian Modifications part when/if i find more

Today there are over 120 countries that have banned the use of cluster bombs, but they were used in Norway right up until 2007! for the most part it was shot at the Hjerkinn shooting range

Characreistic winter-camouflage

-The painted name “Balder” is a Norse name from a deity associated with light, beauty, love, poetry and happiness
-Lisenceplate: 97052. would make the vehicle more characreistic
-Vehicle mark GN with red and yellow colour
-Yellow “PK 4” Inscription with red background

Summer camouflage, this is of the M109 with the L/39 cannon, some modifications and the cannon are different but the camouflage is simlar. this picture was the best showing i could find
