Line of Contact Update: Infantry in War Thunder!

im sorry but im not sure I follow.

I merely said that the upcoming Su-30 in the japanese TT is great addition, in thread related to the upcoming update.

Im not sure I broke any rules and if I did, I apologize. Im not sure how the link relates to what ive said.

Yes but this topic is for the Infantry

Is it? the linked trailer for the update showcases different things beside infantry, so i was under the impression that this is the thread fot the Line of Contact update.

Yeah I could see how that can happen but yeah this was talking about Infantry and the new one is CBT stuff and more details …

fair enough, i will refrain from further comments.

It will be, yes. “At the launch of the CBT, PC players on Windows, Linux and Mac, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles will be able to participate.”

Xbox Series = X|S

Love to see infantry gets its own mode… when probably half, or more, of the currently playerbase wants a tank only mode.

and while i am at it…

This game is played by more players that dont play competitive PvP, then playerd that do… so why a infantry mode that is almost exclusivly interessting to Competitive PvP players?

Gaijin drilled everyone over years that this game is not a true competitive game with stuff like the one spawns politics and that no one will ever get a penalty for leaving or trolling… and now a infantry mode where its even more needed to have some sort of skill to be usefull?

Will probably end like enlisted ey?

To kinda side track with infantry, Think will we be getting more support type vehicles for infantry like Landing craft and hovercraft? Perhaps being able to spawn in the sea on normandy and deploy infantry squads when landing?

(Or perhaps more troop transports with towed equipment?)

Infantry could very well be the beginning of the end for War Thunder. As a longtime player with thousands of hours, hundreds of USD spent, a special attachment to this game, and among many of the same, I say: NO to infantry.

There are countless FPS titles out there, a large proportion of which already combine infantry with tanks and aircraft. There is no shortage of realistic games which provide exactly this kind of gameplay, just only with less realistic vehicles. The best example is Enlisted, managed by Gaijin itself, and developed by an extremely related company.

War Thunder players play this game because they like tanks, planes, helicopters, and ships. War Thunder is incredibly unique for such factors including the aforementioned, historical accuracy, and realism. Not for infantry of any kind! One of the reasons which people play this game is specifically for realistic warfare WITHOUT infantry. Sure, some WT players like the idea of an infantry mode, but the majority would be alienated by such a development, or wouldn’t care for it at all.

I am tremendously thankful that infantry won’t be coming to any of the current War Thunder game modes, but that’s literally the worst case scenario. What will happen as a result of this development will still undeniably be negative for War Thunder as a whole. What can change is how bad it will be. Effort, money, and time invested in this infantry mode will be inversely proportional to War Thunder’s success and future existence as we know it. The less Gaijin diverts to this irrelevant nonsense, the better off it and the community will be.

Development effort and time will be diverted from current player needs. Players and player activity will be split into even smaller fragments between modes (causing high queue times, therefore slowing or even reversing decompression and balance improvement). New vehicles, maps, and features? Expect falling numbers every update. Bug fixes and historical inaccuracies? Many are already ignored for years, but it appears even this could get worse. Work on updating current gamemodes, or new modes with actual player support (ARB EC, tank-only GRB)? Forget about it entirely.

And no, War Thunder player population won’t increase dramatically from the addition of infantry. If anything, the number of players in the current gamemodes will stagnate and slowly drop off. The market for FPS games is already saturated, profits from current players will fall, and Gaijin management, known for their ignorance towards players, won’t succeed in making the new mode good anyways. This is a massive gamble that Gaijin is taking (should I mention, without any player agreement or input), and given the conditions, such a misstep scarcely succeeds.

Every single aspect of the game you can think about will be adversely impacted. We can only hope that the impact will be minimal; the fate of War Thunder depends on it.

Bug report to give the Ajax its RWS and Javelin for anybody who is interested → Community Bug Reporting System

Already denied, absolutely wild. Here’s one for the SLAM-ER on the F-18E → Community Bug Reporting System

Response to china man above

Spoiler

To be on the flip side as also another long time player with a good chunk of cash and time in this game. I’m a bit excited for Infantry. Sure there’s a whole lot of fps titles out their ranging from cod to arma to csgo.

But based on how the snail implements infantry, it could be a great addition that’ll have its own feel. Not being a mil sim like arma and not being to arcady like cod or bf. (Sure enlisted is close to what we’ll get but its only managed by gaijin, not made so it could turn out very different.)

WT players i believe like the game cause its not a sim nor an arcade shooter, But somewhere between. Historical accuracy is next to none lets be fair sense they did away with Axis vs allies and Putting 2k era arty in the ww2 bracket.

I agree, having it as its own mode is a smart play.

as for the effort and development part? what?
Mainly confused cause we have naval and heli’s which keep getting worked on even though most players don’t play their modes. And even if infantry turns out to be neglected like them, it wont make that much of a dent in development than what we already get. (Such as copy/paste updates, Broken mechanics, and br changes)

Like all the bug reports and QOL updates we get that have the players in mind right?

We have enough players for multiple modes and more. Not every player will play every mode. If your scared of your queue time going from 2 seconds to 5, idk what to tell ya man.

This is just an opinion with no actual facts my guy. Who knows, Infantry might draw in a whole new crowd for gaijin to get their souls from. Maybe even increasing the player count by double :O Though enough poking fun.
Not saying you cant have an opinion, but don’t play the whole “Its the end of days if this happens everyone will suffer!”

Or, you know, won’t and will get some type of improvement from infantry for the other modes. Like utility heli’s and APC’s having another use instead of atgm spam.

Not at all. lol. If infantry fails to be a good game mode, then it’ll just end up like naval or heli pve.
Then we’ll all go back to grinding months for a different variant of the same vehicle. Especially sense its not connected to the normal modes.

Though if you had this view on something like Electronic Warfare or harms, I could see it very drastically being a make or brake for at least air combat and spaa. Mainly sense this would have to be in every mode instead of being separate.
(Look at how many people are still fighting for the kh38 to be removed for being such a better missile)

I wonder how many times I’m going to have to see this comment lol.

Bro, let’s take tanks as an example. There are four game modes where you can use them. Adding a fifth is fully into diminishing returns territory, you’re unlikely to find a new untapped reservoir of tank players who haven’t tried WT yet and would be convinced by a fifth tank mode.

On the other hand, infantry is completely new to WT, so it’s untapped, the expectation is that it will not dilute the playerbase because new players will come in. Whether this bet will suceed or not remains to be seen, but the logic ain’t hard to grasp.
