Laser-guided weaponry for Soviet/Russia fighter without TGP

Local WT player forgets that other things can lase targets for aircraft launched laser guided weapons.

The optoelectronic sighting system includes an optical location station and a helmet-mounted targeting system. The optical location station of the Su-30MK2 aircraft, which is a combination of an overview-tracking heat direction finder and a laser range finder, is used to detect and track an aerial target in its front and rear hemispheres by its thermal radiation, measure the range of a laser beam to an aerial and ground target, and can also be used for laser illumination of a ground target when the use of air-to-surface guided missiles with a semi-active laser homing head.

OLS-30 brochure from UOMZ makes no mention of air-to-ground functions for the laser other than rangefinding

Seems only OLS-35 for Su-35 has this function

Export modifications are equipped with different equipment…(Especially Russian ones)…
Also, my mistake, taking into account the translation, I should have written in more detail …

  1. OLS and OEPS are different from each other (therefore, we need to look at which modification of the Su-30)…
    2.Although my text is correct (The optoelectronic sighting system)…
    3.For example, the Su-30MKK/Su-30MK2 is equipped with OEPS…
Spoiler

4.OLS…

Unlike the Su-30MKI/Su-30MKM, the Russian Su-30SM is equipped with OEPS…
I don’t know for sure on the Algerian Su-30MKA and Su-30SME (Myanmar)…

So it would be like firing the laser guided missiles on the Su-25 and Su-17/22? if so they would be very bad, especially at high battle ratings where russian fighters get IRST. It would be better to just take unguided rockets or the TV guided ones

100% buddy lasing. OP is taking nonsense.

10 months after this thread, the current Su-30SM have the ability to use Kh-29L without any TGPs, your colleagues now adding Venezuelan Su-30MK2 with same capability.

Can actually use them on the dev server?

Or are they just leftover loadouts from reworking the Su-30SM files into the Su-30MK2?

Just left over, the SU-30SM has the required TGP;

I’ll report the KH-29L’s on the su_30mk2v_venezuela being able to be used and lased without a pod present.

The T220 TGP is required to operate the KH-29L from the SU-30SM;

If you still have a loadout from when it was incorrectly able to employ KH-29L without the use of TGP then you have a bugged loadout.

I will be reporting the KH-29L on su_30mk2v_venezuela without a TGP and it will be removed or the TGP will be added. It will not remain able to laser guide a laser guided weapon without any ability what so ever to self laze.

Hey gunjob, what about this bug report on the russian side. Seems like it’s keeping the lase function but adjusting the view instead. (Assuming google translate is correct)

I have asked the question I understand the OLS-35 has illumination capabilities, but per Rosoboronexport its LRF only on SU-30MK2. But naturally it could have been swapped for a newer unit between that brochure publication and now.

Makes me even wonder more if this is Universal across the board among OLS/OEPS IRST and is just not written anywhere.

Anyways thank you

From what I can tell from the RosoboronExport catalogue, SU-30MK2 has only a LRF.

There is the 52Sh IRST module that can do illumination but the export catalogue also lists that as SU-35 only. Which makes sense as the whole system OLS-35 also lists that capability.

Gets slightly more complex as well.

So SU-30MKM and SU-30MKI are LRF only

SU-30MKK can illuminate.

And SU-30 series of aircraft can be fit with 52Sh which can illuminate as we established from the export catelogue;

So it seems after a certain point they started to include illuminators, but aircraft with the OLS-30 do not have that capability and it needs the IRST module swapped for a 52Sh after which the system can do it. But if the whole system (OLS-30) is then renamed to a subvariant when the 52Sh is included I don’t know.

But if SU-30MK2V is a development of SU-30MKK it might have retained the illumination capabilities.

This is sounding like another case of export aircraft getting better stuff because customers are willing to pay for it (ie Algerian Su-34)

Thanks for the insight Gunjob, was really informative. Now I put on my copium hat for 30SM to get it.

No worries mate, I didn’t expect it to be such a minefield.

Just to be extra, this is a pic from Su-35S’s MFD capturing a F-22A being track by OLS-35 in Syria, should it be implement for other in-game IRST with this capability as something like current Su-25SM targeting system but with much lower zoom level and worse clarity since IRST is essentially a IR Camera?

Got it the SU-30MK2 has the OEPS-27MK (31E-MK) and can illuminate.

Which is odd as it doesn’t use the OEPS-30 series given its a SU-30 model but either way it can illuminate.
