KNM Sørøy - Ex Eglantine
EGLANTINE hoisted Norwegian command in Belfast on 14 August 1941. After command hoist, the vessel went to Tobermory on the north-west coast of Scotland, where it carried out exercises to train the crew.
EGLANTINE was ready for war on 1 October this year. and was stationed at Liverpool and subordinate to the Commander of Western Approaches. The vessel was put into the “Liverpool Escort Force” tasked with escorting convoys in the Atlantic and the Irish Sea. At the end of the war, EGLANTINE was subordinated to the commander of Marine section Kirkenes, who in turn was under the operational command of the commander of the Soviet Russian “Northern Fleet” - Admiral Golovko - who had his headquarters in Poliarnoye. After the end of the war, EGLANTINE was purchased for Norway and renamed SØRØY in 1946.
From December 1950, SØRØY was designated as a frigate. The vessel was put into fisheries inspection service, where it served until 1956, and the command was retired for the last time on 9 May. In the same year, SØRØY was sold to shipowner Thor Dahl in Sandefjord, who converted it into a whaleboat and named it THORSGLIMT. In 1969 it was sold to Kristiania Spigerverk and chopped up.
