These boats are simlar, so i choosed the one wich had the best pictues, KNM Kjapp.
Captain lieutenant, later commanding captain, Harald Henriksen, who was a veteran of the Shetland division, shortly after the Second World War set about constructing a motor torpedo boat with a view to production in Norway. In February 1950, a final description of a project for a Norskbygget motor torpedo boat based on Henriksen’s design was presented for efforts. The prototype, which was delivered to the Navy on 18 November 1952, was named “RAPP” and designated RAPP A-class. with a starting point in satisfactory trials with this boat, it was decided to acquire a further 5 boats of this type RAPP b-class. in 1955 the entire series was delivered, and apart from RAPP they got the names rask, kvikk, kjapp, snar and snøgg. The most significant weakness of the RAPP-Class was that the construction was based on the use of petrol engines which soon went out of production. The RAPP-Class boats were all deleted from the fleet list in 1970 except SNØGG, which was deleted in 1971
Harald Henriksen was an operational naval officer and in 1943-44 he was commander of one of the D-class boats in Shetland. he had taken a great interest in MTB’s construction and after the war he worked on a new MTB construction that could be produced in Norway. In the autumn of 1946, he was allowed to test a model in the large model tank at NTH, (which during the war had served as a potato bin). Although the tests showed a need for modifications to the hull, his ideas were well received. in February 1947, a “committee” or project was set up, where Henriksen was supported by expertise both from NTH, civilian shipyards and other officers. The development was dependent on staff requirements, which took time to agree on. It was primarily envisioned to standardize on a type of MBT, which should be able to carry four torpedoes, 1x 40mm Bofors and 2x 20mm Oerlicon (later converted to 1). It should have a speed of 45 knots and be able to withstand open seas in light gales. otherwise it should be as small as possible, preferably no more than 100 feet and 80-90 tons. In the autumn of 1948, there was still a lot of development left, but because people had great faith in the project, we got the Elco class as a provisional solution. In the winter of 1950, Henriksen’s concept was approved, with four Packard petrol engines and a hull of 80 feet and 72 tonnes. somewhat like the Elco class, the hull was built up of glued oak slats, where the inner skin lay diagonally on the outer skin, to give the hull diagonal support. A prototype was first built at Westermoen in Mandal. It was launched on 7 May 1952 and was named “Rapp”, also in honor of our very first torpedo boat. The tests in the autumn of 1952 were satisfactory, but even though the plan was originally 13 boats, in the first instance only five more boats were commissioned from the same shipyard. These were delivered during 1955
