What planes will get the jdam, when the update goes live?
This is what was mentioned during dev stream:

So only select Russian and American planes and maybe a gripen? Nothing for the rest of the nations? Bit lame.
Yeah. I was rather excited for GPS guided bombs. But Britain only used Paveway IV or ePaveway. and they havent been modeled yet. and god knows how long that will be till they are
Well as someone who only plays China and Sweden that’s a bit disappointing
Being a China focused update. It is a surprise that not even the J-10 is getting some GPS guided (if it had something of course)
It can carry some
Give it 6 years after the yanks get theirs.
I think most nations will have at least one jet with GPS bombs since the F-16, gripen and Mig-29 exists in many trees other than origin country.
I can’t really make out exactly what countries he mentions as it goes by very fast. but there are a lot of them at least.
Assuming Gripens get them, it’d be really nice to get some of those lil glide bombs that are GPS designated. The range wouldn’t be all too much a problem given the whole can’t precisely mark things until point blank, it’d just give Gripens a half competent load for striking ground targets.
The Swedish gripen uses the GBU-39 IRL that has a max range of ~110km but also only has a warhead of 93kg(200lb) so for the game it might balance out the power with the range perhaps.
With the Litening II pod you can easily both see and target AA at like 30km+ range so i think that might be a bit to over powered for the game at the moment (perhaps? the time it takes and the small warhead might balance it?). That would make the gripen completely untouchable by current AA vehicles and the only danger would be ARH missiles from other jets.
Damn, dunno how your game’s allowing that. In most matches with it I can barely see things out to 20km, under the most flawless of conditions. Usually only decides to show me stuff <18km.
Though I would argue the fact you would be ditching the majority of your countermeasures for these weapons would balance it out. Especially with the state of BOL making you need the majority of your CMs.
It might have to do with pilot level in “keen vision” perhaps?
Or perhaps the game displays differently in test flight compared to real matches.
Not sure, i just tested in test flight, i haven’t tried it in GRB.
perhaps, but at those ranges, would you really need your CM’s that much?
This assumes that you would not be using them in environments with other aircraft attempting the intercept. CMs mean fuck all when striking ground targets, sure, but ground targets don’t really exist in a vacuum.
You are correct, but the risk of getting intercepted drastically declines when you fly that far from the field (in the direction of your own spawn). Sure, the risk is still there, absolutely, but less so.
not completely, chaff can make inexperienced SPAA players lose lock for long enough to miss. but generally i would tend to agree.
Seem to be assuming I’m referring to ground RB. I’m more wanting these weapons to actually hit ground targets in Sim.
gbu 39 only reaches that range in great conditions but overall would be balanced we already have kh38s which already outranges the best sams in the game
Not to mention too that the GBU-39 has a tiny warhead, there is a high chance that it may even fail to penetrate most tank armor since they only contain about 16kg of explosive filler. Thats miniscule compared to the likes of even the GBU-12 which rocks 87kg of explosive filler. It could get the FLM warhead which is still only 67kg of filler, still below that of the GBU-12.
I’d say that the GBU-39 will prove to be rather useless against a majority of the vehicles in game when compared to even standard JDAMs like the GBU-38 against all but the lightest of vehicles.
Sounds a lot like the APKWS all over again where they have great stats on paper but their warheads are flat out useless in game making the entire weapon irrelevant.
True. I was.
That’s a really good point, perhaps a nerf/buff on jdams distance similar to the one between arcade and realistic regarding vehicle acceleration/speed/etc but for SIM so that SIM has full range but Realistic has “balanced” ranges for jdam?
Even if those are ideal conditions (which i personally don’t think is the complete picture) and the practical distance is halved that’s still 55km range with a detection range through Litening II pod of 30km+ against SPAAs max range of like 20km.
In GRB that’s a VERY one sided battle even if the munition can’t hit moving targets as the plane can just drop all of the bombs and rearm without ever being in harms way (except other jets of course).
