Unlike back then, chaff is now required to be taken as you can’t just exploit MP all day long and the Gripen isn’t all that strong anymore.
Though F18Cs might be able to do it with 8x BOL. But an aircraft with only 2 shouldn’t be unplayable because one with 8x was too strong, just remove 4-6 rails for from the one with 8
Also BOL would still have the reduced burn time it has now, so pre-flaring is harder/requires double the flares
Ehh, 60m MP still lets you get away with murder even against the better close range ARH missiles. I’m mostly talking about how even missiles with double IRCCM (TY-90 being the most capable missile of the type) failing to track a Gripen that does the BOL spam strat, even if fired from behind and within close range. Reverting the nerf is fine, as long as it doesn’t revert the gameplay to brainless CM spam.
I agree that the BOL CMs should be buffed, at minimum to the same level as normal CMs.
I would prefer it to be implemented as realistic as possible, so most importantly higher BOL flare rear-aspect effectiveness than normal flares, and probably higher BOL Chaff effectiveness than normal Chaff.
He means back when they werent nerfed. They were just standard CMs, burn time and all. Having 700+ CMs just meant you could ignore IR threats as you never needed to take chaff.
Though wierdly. Was never an issue for the Harrier Gr7 only the Gripen when it was better than the F-16… Hmmm
Even though you could shoot it down with the F16C quite comfortably. Even I, who was testing it against folk much better than I at air to air.
Though it is infuriating they say to make better stuff, then when we get it the things that are notable to its design and role are cut down because it beats yanks. It wasn’t particularly hard to down a gripen spamming countermeasures, in the same way it wasn’t hard to down other platforms spamming countermeasures. Just loosed something that wasn’t IR, or used a cannon. Just slightly infuriating. But oh well, I’m sure we’ll see agile American aircraft nerfed because of BOL’s introduction to them in a manner fair to how gripen was treated. It would be unheard of for something to come to the yanks that ruined other aircraft without the yanks getting punished.
Did anyone actually make a bug report for BOL? I guess it will fail because while nerfing the BOL just on logic seems fair to Gaijin, fixing it would of course require multiple sources right?
Taking their sweet time with it maybe in time for the Xmas release when they add IIR missiles.
It gets better because as we know only Typhoon and Gripen actually operate with spectral countermeasures (Russia do not have them and the US hasn’t adopted them completely)
France are in the process and as it stands Typhoon flies with them
I guess they can take their time for now, Spamming flares and chaff does work in ARB with the older generation of missiles, and with the new missiles in GRB the ground players may just finally be able to breathe for a few months without CAS.
I`m not even certain its gonna make it to the live server, just like what happened with the R73 that got delayed. It is very early in the dev server so I guess we gotta wait and see what changes. Also they still have the Aim120B model afaik, so early in development
No, on the Harrier it was also annoying. It’s just that the Harrier is easier to lock down for a gun kill. Back when the Gripen was both a UFO and immune to all IR threats it was extremely annoying. Maybe it’s unreasonable to ask that missiles with IRCCM be capable of keeping track of a hot, high performance fighter engine even if they’re spamming flares from their ~500+ CM dispensers.
It’ll still be bad gameplay to just let BOL aircraft ignore any close range threat, just like the ridiculously overperforming L-370 system is also bad gameplay.
It is potentially also worth considering that a multitude of advanced formulations do also exist for (some) other dispensers so it could be rolled into a wider push for (multi-) spectral flare functionality to be implemented. So it’s not as if non-BOL equipt airframes would be entirely left behind, if Gaijin went that way.
