APFSDS can also overpressure targets sometimes whe whole thing is wack. i have no clue how that happens but I’ve died to it enough times to have notice that it was overpressure
Yep.
I mean there is a reason its seen very little export
yea, its was the early 2000s. the 90s bubble has popped, the USSR had collapsed so military spending was in the toilet and pretty much everyone was already in recession before the 2008 crash. The leopard was cheaper. Its only the Omani army that bought them because of this, Jordan probably will buy them in a few years like they did with CR1
Well neither did the Challenger 1 see much export. There’s reasons why the Leopard 2A5+ models, T-90s, even the ludicrously expensive M1s have operators in the double digits while the CR2 only has 3- same as even the PT-91 produced by more minor Poland, or the VT-4, or Leclerc, or K2, despite higher effort to export the vehicle.
There’s many reasons but in general this simply reflects underperformance for its price tag.
CR1 was around in the era where everyone that could potentially buy it had just bought a leopard 1, chieftain or slapped ERA on their Israeli retrofitted centurion.
The abrams as an export is more recent than even the CR2 export attempts, from when russia started doing current events. plus its American, any not quite 3rd world country with money or concerned country near russia will buy from them just like how the saudis will buy it if its British.
that’s just the UAE being the UAE
Also the US has a history of bullying nations into buying their equipment
yea the risk of losing a trade deal because they bought from BAE or Russia instead of Raytheon isn’t worthwhile for most countries
Sounds like a lot of yammering just to agree that the Chally is overpriced and underperforming compared to other MBTs
Its a big heavy tank. built to be all its predecessor was but better. Its proven itself enough
Very crudely put. If nations aren’t going to pay their fair share in Nato, we should bully nations into buying our vastly better equipment.
it might be overpriced, but doesnt mean that Gaijin can drag it through the mud as much as they do in game. Way too many provable problems with its implementation in game, and even if it was 1:1 accurate with real life and its current performance was correct then it shouldnt be at the same BR as everything else.
But I think its biggest issue IRL is that it was too niche. Few nations want or need the equivalent of a heavy tank in the MBT world. Smaller, cheaper and more adaptable are the usual go tos
I wouldnt necessarily say the US has “vastly better equipment” I think european nations have proven plenty of time their kit is equal if not superior. Just the US can often undercut other nations. But with the amount of nations buying Gripens these days. Kinda says a lot in my opinion
The English-speaking audience of the game simply doesn’t know who works at Gaijin, their views on history and politics, or certain aspects of how Russians view Anglo-Saxons.
Yes exactly. Though of course it’s not the only vehicle underperforming- all MBTs are based on guesswork. Even the 2A7 is missing armour, has too slow of a reload, missing FCS, and has underperforming and missing shells.
Though its the bits that arent guesswork that are most annoying. Like the year old bug reports for the CR1 and CR2s microscopic ready rack. Im guessing it was a hold-over balancing measure when we had the fastest reload. But these days, with everyone else running 5 second reloads (except a few). That nerf is really punishing.
But I think there is enough data been found and provided to Gaijin over the past few years to eliminate most of the guesswork
One F-35 will down their ordinance worth of Gripens without even being detected. MBTS sure a Leopard will be as good as an export Abrams since those do not ship out with DU
for some things, even with the atrocious markups, US kit is more cost effective, take for example the AIM-120D-3 vs the MICA-EM
Not really. F-35s are good for SEAD. But pretty useless for pretty much anything else. Gripen E, Typhoon or Rafale will outperform an F-35 in pretty much any other mission type.
That I think is a simple case of supply and demand. They produce a hell of a lot more and sell them to more countries, therefore the per unit cost is lower. Nothing more nothing less.
If France was building and exporting as many MICA-EMs as the US does Aim-120s, im sure their cost would be the same.
