IS-2 in the service of Hungarian People's Army

Qualified yes. While it would be a great addition to Italy due to them not having any heavy tanks, I would prefer to see the rest of the domestic Hungarian designs before this is added. +1 later down the line.

After some quick searches on the web and according to Chatgpt (take this with a grain of salt), both Hungary and Romania serviced IS-2s, and may also have had a few IS-3s delivered to them, but were quickly overshadowed by newer MBTs from SU and thus not used in service. If the sub-tech trees are going to be filled out, these are probably the only heavy tanks that could be added to the Italian tech tree, ever (other than the Tigris). With that in mind, i’ll go in favour of adding this to War Thunder, but would not normally be enthusiastic due to these tanks being copy/paste.

I would much rather see the P.43 or the 44M Tas added, the game is far too gone from its roots to still hang on to the “historical accuracy” rules it started with since there is little to nothing historical about the game anymore, especially at higher brs with classified vehicles and weapons with made up statistics, ridiculous moba looking maps and a random match maker. Im not saying the devs should start making up vehicles like they do in wot but if there are detailed blueprints and information then why not? the copy and past is getting silly lately and i just personally never touch a vehicle that has been copy pasted, we want something new from the ww2 era for once its been a long time

No more copy and pasting!!!

Maybe the P43 bis is a bit more than a blueprint ;)

Even though it’s photoshop, I could not resist using this image from the subreddit for comparison

The “bis” version of the P43 is armed with the Italian 90mm, so perhaps it could even find its way into a lineup with the 75 or 80mm armed 44M Tas. This dream is much more preferrable to me than the IS-2 in this suggestion.

I agree with that, but if the developers don’t want to add the P.43 or the 44M Tas, the IS-2 would be a great alternative. Plus, Italy, Japan, and Sweden are the only tech trees missing a non-premium heavy tank

Bit less, I would say.
The situation about it was a bit complicated. They was far from deciding and build an engine, and the nearest thing to a prototype was a 1:1 wooden mock-up.

Is it photoshopped? Not just colorized? I’ve seen that black & white photo before. I think it isn’t questionable that P43 (not bis) had at least a full-scale mock-up.

Unfortunately imo chances for P.43 are close to 0 and for 44M are quite low as well, maybe if Italian GF was introduced 1 or 2 years earlier, we would already have both. Although I would like to be wrong.

+1.

This is just colored.

The first photo is colorized by u/p43bispo on Reddit, the second one is a photorealistic depiction from this post on the Subreddit. Not sure how it was created, but it looks pretty convincing to me.

To me, a full scale wooden mockup will always be a step up from the blueprint level, but I can completely understand if not everyone has that view.

The 44M TAS would be the best heavy tank for the Hungarian line, but the IS-2 is a great addition as well even though it being mostly a copy and paste.

Italy and Hungary needs both of these heavies in my opinion.

This should rather be an event or batlepass tank if there were any other tech tree alternatives… The thing about the Is-2 is that it just not that iconic compared to a T-34-85 for example, which heavily participated in the revolution too and so on. I really hope the Tas can be the techtree heavy instead. (Or for that matter the P.43)

I’m Hungarian, and no we not say Isz-2 we just say IS-2 as it written, or I S-2, it’s really really rare if somebody saying isz-2 because it’s a longer word and you can’t say it as quick as saying just IS-2, but yeah overall I’d love to see an IS-2 in the game but the Isz-2 is not a misinformation but nobody use to say it.

Ok, thanks) I’ve just met that designation in most of Hungarian sources, one Hungarian article also referred to it as JS-2 (like “Joseph Stalin”).

Pretty hypocritical. Most of the visegrad tree is copy-paste and has heavy tanks, the very same vehicle this suggestion has and you’re against?

I’ve been looking for this. Italy could also get the P.43, but can’t have that because muh paper. This would be a chance to give a TT heavy to the Italian tree. They should’ve added the german tanks as TT ones because those were standard by the end of the war and make the soviet captured ones premium but whatever.

Ik HNG IS-2 not captured, I’m talking like t-34. Tigris should’ve been TT imo or panther but they got the TAS that’s an original design but also fulfills a similar role.

For some reason everyone loves to mention the Visegrad tech tree here, I myself don’t want the IS-2 in the tech tree as well, but we needed a tank for the heavy tank line and it needed to be Hungarian, I wish they finished the 44M Tas, but hey, they got bombed just as badly by the allies as the Italians, my reasoning for this is that I don’t like western and eastern equipment joining up with each other. For example here in the Visegrad ground tech tree, we did our best to seperate soviet based equipment from western by putting them in different ranks.

PS. The Visegrad Group tech tree is not mostly copy and paste
