Imho just KH-38 and similar jets are worth to spawn in GRB. Its range and reaction time is good enough to avoid AA systems. You spawn and spacebar your volley, then you have plenty time to avoid incoming SAMs and eventually reload.
I realized that fiddling around with Brimstones, Mavs or any kind of guided bombs is just not very rewarding. And even when you - finally took out this annoying BUK (2 independent launch units), they just spawn it again on free daily token, so like 10 seconds later you have the same situation and SAMs are peppered into your direction once again. Then there’s a free generic SPAA spawn and other players might decide its time to spawn an SPAA as well…aaaarrrrg…the game is so saturated with high performance SPAAs that any jet beside KH-carriers are close to pointless to bring. At top tier. At lower BR brackets bombs and Mav work. Even Brimstones @ Tornado in a downtier. But against top dog SPAA’s its pointless.
Can’t you read? Effective range is 40km. Means up to 40km its very capable and will most likely hit the target. Maximum range is something different than effective range. Max range is likely higher, but hit probability is most likely not sufficient when the missile lost most of its potential energy.
We will never get official numbers about this. But its obvious that ingame the effective range vs player jets is around 15-20km max… If its towards 20km, the missile appears hardly moving anymore. So if Gajin truly wants, they could easily buff SLM by 100% range performance to match the DIehl statement.
Totally agree! I would also add giving free SAMs was a good idea until you compare them. Pantsir as a free last spawn makes none Russian CAS harder and harder.

40km range test
Looks good, but unfortnately still IRIS gets hardcountered by DIRCM helis. As soons as possible players start to spawn Z-10 or Mi-28 and you just can’t do anything but die.
Balancing nightmare.
If it were up to me, modern IR based SAMs should have never been added, SA-15/AIM-9X/IRIS-T have basically negated the existence of certain helicopters and planes that don’t have DLIRCM or MAWS. They cannot be balanced, and they will never be.
And we pay the price in the form DLIRCM, which makes these systems useless and not even worth spawning.
Ironic, considering these systems are only in the game beacuse of longe range FnF IR missiles like the KH38XX; Hammers even IR Hellfires, which had no counter at all when they were added.
FnF weapons should have never been added to to game in the first place imo.
Or limit them to modes with many PvE targets. Everything leads back to a reworked EC mode :D
A proper permanent PvE Mode could indeed solve a lot of the balancing issues modern weapons bring. But will likely never come beacuse: sOmEOne tHinK AbOUt tHe qEuE tIMe!!!
The sweet irony of it all is that Gaijin added these SAMs to counter the very aircraft that were dominating ground battles, only for these SAMs to be totally negated the update after with LDIRCM helicopters carrying 16 FnF AGMs.
There is no way to balance IR SAMs, I feel like at this point they should be removed and replaced with ARH ones. IRIS-T would be the best SAM in the game right now if Gaijin wasn’t so hellbent on keeping it in its neutered state.

the only reason why helis are now dominating CAS is so that ppl are forced to grind the Heli tree as well to stay competitive
For Iris-T it doesn’t work. You simply can’t engage these new ones. They’re untouchable. One Mi-28, Z10 etc can basically take out the whole Ger team, when they stay out of range for old systems. Which isn’t that hard…
Mi-8tsh is also immune to them lol
I think the Mi-8 was somewhat reasonable compared to the rest if i remember correctly
Like the deadzones for the DIRCM works as intended and doesn’t have the power of wallhack to jam something it can’t actually see
The only reason they added DLIRCM was so that IR SAMs wouldn’t negate the existence of them at top tier. Playing the UHT, even at 12.7 is literally impossible. Now imagine if IRIS-T was implemented according to spec. All helicopters would be made irrelevant.
You get shot down by SA-15s or AIM-9X in the UHT and there is nothing you can do. DLIRCM would have been justified had they implemented it fairly, but they did not. This whole DLIRCM debacle could have been avoided if Gaijin’s foresight wasn’t so damn small.
The introduction of modern IIR missiles was a mistake; they cannot be balanced without making these missiles useless against helicopters that have absurd resistance against them.

Soond like a skill issue to me, if you launch rockets ir missiles are gone easily, i have no trouble against them in the ka 52.
