Iris-t slm

Thats cool and all but to compare effectivness of AA that can only effectively target air targets with tanks, IFVs and what not, tells you nothing.

so for some reason slm follows other slm rocket instead of heeading to target…

Yesterday I shot an Iris to intercept a spike missile, shot from an chopper. It was going slow, following its top down attack pattern (or what Gajin things about top/down :) )
The Iris missile somehow didn’t explode. I could follow the smoketrail and it should have hit the Spike. Thats what I often noticed. Shooting ordnance fails far too often.

Another issue I noticed: The radar switches targets as it wants, you have no real control what target gets locked. You’re shoting a missile to down a jet, then it releases ordnance and the lock/missile switches over to the first bomb/missile/rocket which was released. You need to re-lock the jet and fire another missiles. Add the high miss rate vs ordnance and you see there’s a giant waste of Iris missiles. The radar does what it wants with almost no player control. Sometimes I miss things like Flarakrad, for real.

Third issue are still far too small maps with very bad line of sights. Like the Korean pit map, factory maps and many more. Choppers and jets get above you while you’re sitting in a tiny pit map and can’t even leave the spawn. Also ground units often shot your dish, cause of the map design.

I had several matches on large Fulda, these were great. Most maps should be like this one. I really started to like Fulda, Red Desert and some more of this type. While factory, seversk, 48th parallel-type maps are super toxic. I wish I could leave without crew lock. Remove crewlock please.

Was so excited to finally have Germany on my team and i’m sorry to say you SLM guys need to prioritise ordinance and not waste 5+ missiles trying to kill a Su-34, yes they die but they net the 6 kills.

Is there an issue with tracking missiles and bombs?

didn’t you read that SLM currently probably has less than 50% hit rate on atgms?

At what altitude was it?
Because the IRIS-T has in game an minimun altitude of 25m

In alot cases the Iris approaches incoming ordnance quite well…then somehow phases through without fusing…then a wild zigzack flight pattern (lol, looks scrary) and the missile is gone. The ordnance still there :) So…you do it once or twice…but then you simply stop shooting ordnance. Its pointless, drains all your missiles and even when you hit it: There is no real reward and it doesn’t apply for any task. Calculate it, one russian jet might shot 6 missiles and one glide bomb. Its almost the loadout of one launcher unit. Then most shots miss anyway. And thats just one jet. Impossible to deal with it. Same for an F-15 releasing its 23435345 small glide bombs, sorry I’m not gonna waste my missiles for this.

it was definetly above 25m. It was a long range spike shot. It was the only object, so it was even hard locked all the time. (The chopper was already dead :) )

That makes more sense I did think there must be a reason.

At least I mostly play for a task or to generate RP income. Shooting ordnance simply has no benefit (and its a difficult job, as I wrote above) WT is not really about teamplay. These fast ground rb matches are like assembly line work. You just go through it, match for match. There’s no communication. No teamplay. Just every player follows his own agenda and its totally random who wins at the end.

Yes

whenever an aircraft drops a bomb/missile, all missile launched by IRIS-T SLM will switch to track that ammunition. - Due to a bug in the radar / tracking and DL logic.

You can see it quite well in the radar target list. this is what happens:
The “*” in the target list indicates that your missile is tracking the target. If you don’t see a * you have to fire again, or rely on IOG luck.

  1. Spot air target:
    #1 SU-34
  2. Air target #1 → fire a single IRIS-T, target gets marked with *
    #1* SU-34
  3. Air target drops a bombs. The SU-34 disappears from the radar list for a second:
    #1 SU-34
    #2* Bomb

Now the missile is tracking the bomb, and even the highlighted target jumps to the bomb. There is nothing you can do about it.
Its probably some weird off-by-one-error in their targeting logic.

So basically never shoot at aircraft that are dropping, or about to fire their weapons. All you do is give away your position.

Shooting ordnance fails far too often.

Hit-reg/tickrate issue. Ground based missile use 25 tps (afaik), meaning a IRIS-T at 1000m/s missile teleports around 40 meters per tick. So the chance with a 15m fuze to teleport past a target is quite high.
Tick-rate against aircraft might be higher, or there is some more generous check in place.

Well gaijin changed it and made winning irrelevant. But if you ever want to win games you need to protect the tanks or you get steamrolled and it is happening a lot recently.

i think this targeting logic is related to radar ? and i think it affects every other spaa in wt , this is also an issue in the pantsir. if a target launches a missile/bomb the radar will automatically switch to the missile/bomb. i wonder if this can be fixable.

Ah yeah… I saw this several time when I check my radar. The 2nd missile track the 1st missile with IR TRK XD.

It seems that Ka-50 also immune to SLM when he was 3.5 km away he somehow deflected 4 slm rockets and i died…

most likely because the doppler effect is stronger on the AGM since it’s faster

Would be a shame if modern systems such as IRIS-T had algorithms to keep track of the current target and ignore the new contact…

oh wait

Flare, in many case from my experience IRIS-T not immune to Flare, even Su-25 - A-10 who keep spam flare can survive from IRIS-T.

but datalink was active and i think it mentioned in IRIS T document that it knows what is flare and what is not flare

The problem is the dish only track the target once (without look-back capability like IRL). The radar only tracks it once while enemy at same time doing maneuver. So, the datalink did not update their data until the dish rotates one more time (and the quality of TWS really bad because without look-back capability feature).

but for some reason it works most of the time on american helies and jets? even A-10 flares didn’t do anything and A-10 got killed while noticed SU 27 and Ka50/52 and mi-28 just immune
