All my fears were confirmed in MatAGW’s video of testing the SLM against Kh-38, ripple spamming them from 12km away and doing the most basic maneuvers was enough to counter it, while you can’t do anything to avoid the hell of Kh-38 missiles that’s about to fall on you.
It’s DOA and devs don’t believe brochures from Diehl and all the secondary sources claiming Mach 3 speed, but believe brochures for a defunct missile that never made it past the proposal stage.
thats a problem for both sams at the moment as the devs have decided that both the irst and slamraam cant hit their advertised top speed so id like it if both were changed. at the end of the day better AA is a good thing
They did it with OSA when it released, but Roland at the same BR remains nerfed and neutered since release. Of course BUK will get everything it can do IRL, that has always been the trend with Russian equipment in game.
Although interception of munitions now occurs with higher probability, actually getting the radar to pick up and select the munitions for targetting is very difficult. Additionally, it is impossible to target the launching aircraft, as the moment they shoot their missiles the TWS box starts following the munitions instead of continuing to track the aircraft. This means any missiles shot at the launching aircraft that have not yet switched to IIR guidance stop tracking the aircraft and instead head for one of the munitions. The TWS track needs to remain attached to the radar return matching the plane, not the new munition.
We also need some way to filter the radar returns between target classes/sizes, because if there’s 20 GBU-39s flying around, good luck figuring out which radar return in the blob of returns is the F-15E dropping them.
They do seem to be a little bit less strict with the most modern systems and might accept manufacturer pamphlets and websites sometimes, no clue what the requirements are on that front though.
IRIS-T can successfully engage flying targets at a distance of up to 25 kilometers, reaches a speed of clearly more than 3 Mach, weighs nearly 90 kg at a length of 2.94 meters and a body diameter of 12.7 centimeters. The missile is fully compatible with existing Sidewinder interfaces and warrants a high rejection rate against infrared and laser countermeasures.
This, is the IRIS-T (Air Launched)
not the ground one
