Interceptor spawn for Bf 110 G-4

Why doesn’t the Bf 110 G-4 get an interceptor spawn? It looks like an interceptor to me, it has a radar and the top facing guns. Is this just an oversight by the developers?
And with the bomber buff it would be a great time to add it

it gets napalms so that would mean it base farming in like a minute after the game starts lmao…

still, I can wish it gets one

The question is not new - but you should ask for the “Air defense fighter” spawn (which is 1 km higher than the interceptor spawn) - like the the UK/US night fighters Mosquito NF Mk II (plus SWE J 30) or the two P-61s.

I prepared a suggestion for the last BR change round because i got extremely annoyed by facing way too many Mosquito NF Mk IIs in small 6-8 vs 6-8 matches (when flying my SM 92) following the axis vs allies MM and saw the few guys trying to use the G-4 as a fighter hopelessly outclimbed before the first merge.

The support was rather limited:

Besides that disadvantage vs pure night fighters - this disadvantage exists also vs British twin engine day fighters:

You can check the ADF / Air Superiority planes here:

Air Defence fighter | Game roles | War Thunder Wiki

From my pov: A clear no. The classification strike aircraft / interceptor / ai defense fighter is a deliberate choice.

  • Most obviously for the way more popular Ground RB game mode in which (at least in the past) the necessary spawn points were determined by the role. The necessary spawn points (SP) for a strike aircraft are usually higher than fighter (like Interceptor / Air Defense fighter) which limits their usage in combined warfare game modes.

  • As described further above the classification has also a strong impact on the combat results and the strike aircraft spawn is also steering the usage of the Bf 110 G-4.

Besides that:

The Bf 110 G-4’s usage as base bomber in Air RB is just another joke regarding realism (advertised by gaijin). It is correct that the most successful night fighter ever existed (air kills in the range of 2,500 - 4,000 - no comprehensive data) was used in night raids vs allied troops after D-Day. But if you look up the reports: They used AB 250s and AB 500s (cluster bombs with SD 2 / SD 4) or cannons in those sorties. The bomb rack could carry the C 500 Flamm - but i saw no proof that they were ever used.

This is from my pov not correct as the forward air spawn as strike aircraft is way closer to bases and the interceptor spawn is at the same altitude as the strike aircraft spawn.

Even in case the Bf 110 G-4 would receive the 1 km higher Air Defense Fighter spawn i see no real change - i see daily P-61s doing base bombing “activities” - it is just a matter of using the additional altitude/energy correctly.

As a final remark (considering all topics mentioned):

I fly exclusively with a joystick in Air RB and fly therefore more or less just very stable twin engine planes or very stable single engine aircraft. The Bf 110 G-2 and G-4 flies compared to the Me 410 A-1 like a brick and climbs like a piano.

So even if the 110s would get the 2 km Air Defense Fighter spawn - i will most likely not use it - even in case bombers would see a serious damage buff. The main issue is that bombers play usually no role regarding the outcome of an Air RB match and your game is basically over after a single hit to an engine. You need to rtb and either you get camped or the enemy team is dead.
