That would be extremely simple to balance. Limit the amount of times they can scout, limit their scouting field of view, or fix their sight in one spot.
You keep mentioning high tier answers. What about WW2 and early post-war brackets?
So a light tank has to scout every bush for a random infantryman laying there scouting?

I don’t think player controlled Infantry belongs in the game so I won’t dispute your point. As far as low tier, the stuff I mentioned in my earlier reply would still apply for A.I controlled.
I’m totally cool with AI infantry. I just think player controlled will be super frustrating.

I mean, I do that all of the time and sometimes magically kill those little sneaky rats and bush campers.

Do we still think this will be a standalone game? Senrai Meidens will definitely be one.
War Thunder with infantry is just modern Enlisted, which they already kinda did with the modern event Enlisted had a few years ago.
I wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of an infantry mode being part of the game but I feel it won’t fit WT’s established identity, we’ll see.
The infantry that was tested in the April fools event was A.I. It most likely won’t be added to the game as a playable unit. Also enlisted is cheeks and doesn’t have anywhere near the same number of vehicles.
I would see AI infantry being useful in a symmetrical game modes. Some of it would be simple as a guy with an heavy MG + a Bazooka in a building or a tobruk bunker. Capable of slowing down the enemy advance but once destroyed new AI infantry would need to advance to recapture and fix the defenses. These AI guys would also be cool to see as just location flavor giving a lived in feeling because tanks with no infantry is rare in real life due to the vulnerability of armor to infantry.
Random, But what are the chances someone will make the first BO2 mission when infantry hit?

I think ambient AI infantry will come to current ground modes eventually.
However, the leak about a separate game mode for playable infantry seems pretty definitive. Unless plans change, it’s coming to the game. I’m not sure in what exact form or why.
Next (not spearhead) major update of the year?
WE DON’T WANT INFANTRY. This takes time and effort away from the rest of the game, which isn’t in the best state. And infantry is going to be a dying mode from the start so it isn’t even worth the attention
