MiG-35D

Aircraft info:

Spoiler

The MiG-35D is a 4++ generation fighter made by RSK MiG as an offer to the Indian air force as part of the medium-multirole-combat-aircraft (MMRCA) competition in 2009. The MiG-35D iz 9.67 air frame number black 967 was one of two units sent to participate in the Indian MMRCA the other being the single seat variant MiG-35 iz 9.61 air frame number black 961. Black 967 differed from black 961 by the fact it was the twin seat version of the MiG-35 also known as the MiG-35D and instead of the 630L fuel tank found in the single seater the same place had an extra seat and his own station onboard for an additional crew. With the aircraft being an modification of an existing MiG-29KUB 9.47 mostly only receiving an new AESA radar and fire control modification, it would also retain alot of its Indian DNA through retainig onboard systems such as the Sagem Sigma 95 Sat nav system, radio equipment designed by HAL and Indian Tarang RWR.

Aircraft history:

Spoiler

The history of the MiG-35D starts in 2007 when RSK MiG decided to participate in the Indian MMRCA competition, with MiG first building an MiG-35 tech demonstrator in 2007. Later in 2009 MiG would complete 2 more MiG-35 prototypes given the airframe number black 961 for the MiG-35 and black 967 for the twin seater MiG-35D, both black 961 and 967 in fact was built of converting two already existing MiG-29K/KUB prototypes (Blue 941 and 947). After being built would be tested and evaluted by the IAF, with the first demonstration flights being carried out in October 2009 with Russian pilots behind the controls. This was followed by retaining some selected Indian pilots for training on the MiG-35s. After this the MiG-35s would fly to Jaisalmer air base, located in the Rajasthan desert were they would under go tests aimed at verifying its performance at places with high ambient temperatures. This was followed by tests in the high altitude areas of the Himalayas, Jammu and Kashmir. These were again carried out at Leh Air Base. The tests also included takeoffs and landings with full combat load from locations at an altitude of more than 3500 m. The final tests would be carried out in Russia in April 2010 , at the Akhtubinsk and Zhukovsky air force bases with Indian pilots behind the controls and completing 18 flights including testing of weapons systems on board with the launching of an R-77 at an unnamed aerial target and attacks on ground target with the KAB-500KR TV guided bomb. Sadly the MiG-35 was eliminated from the MMRCA in 2010 with the Typhoon and Rafale advancing to the next stages of the MMRCA. After the MMRCA ended MiG-35D black 967 would be converted back in to an MiG-29KUB but in 2011 the airframe would be lost in an crash killing both pilots.

No for India, yes for Russia. They may have trailed it, but it never even lost its Russian markings or dawned Indian ones, that’s a big thing for me personally. An Indian subtree or tech tree would not need this anyway, it’s most suited to finding itself in the USSR/Russia tree.

-1, Trailed vehicles should not be added.

I agree a good plane though MIGs are sadly under rated though I know why (fuel and most of them have less then good radars) But it would be a great plane especially with the extra guy. Hopefully we get duel pilot AI voice call out some day I would not mind having that makes twin seaters a little more special.

Perfect addition to the British tree.

If it’s for the USSR tree I can agree with it, but otherwise I think trialed vehicles for the UK is the last thing they need, and it’s not like they don’t have a Fulcrum (MiG-29K) that can be added.

Finally a Russian aircraft that’s not stuck with l-150 ±30 degree coverage.

+1 for both India and russia

it most likely has the tarang RWR since it is built from one the Indian MiG-29KUB prototypes judging by that it has the same antenna lay out as the Indian K/KUBs

it also most likely kept all the french/indian avionics that was on their K/KUBs since the only major modification was to the radar and fire control system

Another peak mig got accepted.

Its like the 4th or 5th one and i am happy.

i understand what you mean and reasoning but if you also look at it in another way, the aircraft being based of an MiG-29KUB 9.47 which was developed solely for the Indian navy and received french and Indian avionics, with the MiG-35D modification only replacing the radar and fire control system while still retaining the french and Indian avionics

Time to remove HSTVL & RDF/LT then. :)
Joking, but the anti-prototype mentality [which anti-trial is], gets annoying.

I don’t really mind removing them. Besides this would most likely be going to Britain instead of Russia since it was trailed by India. If it was suggested for Russia instead then it would have been +1 for me

You have to remember Gaijin has final say for these suggestions.
Saying yes doesn’t mean it’ll be the Indian trial version that’s added.

i can always just make one for the other one that was sent for the trails :)
