Well you know where you super detailed M1 will end up. Normandy 44 :)
Taste the realism!
But all this is the opposite to what I said. I said why not put the 360mm armor array into the turret where the 800mm armor array already exist. If indeed the 360mm of armor has the same effectiveness as the 800mm of armor. Because in my world 360mm of armor will fit quite well in the same space that holds 800mm of armor. Either way you are really reaching when you say the armor arrays were made of different materials. We have no proof of that. All this is just hypothetical thought and points out how wildly inconsistence the armor values are on the Abrams. 360mm of NERA should not have the same protection values at 800mm of NERA. This has obviously been coded like this in the games source code to give the Abrams protection values that the devs see fit to give it. Even against all common sense.
Its literally shown on the 53th post on this thread. In real life there are some kind of bracket that support the armor array as it does not take up the entire space.
Right, what I think people should be focusing on is throwing armor estimates at Gaijin to contradict the Swedish trials and also show how the Swedish trials were tested against armor packages that were not used in US service. Instead, everybody seems to be fixated on proving DU armor arrays were put into the Abrams hulls, but you still gotta come up with armor estimates for DU armor which is gonna put them back at square one.
its dead weight due to it underperforming
that was the entire issue with the Abrams when the weight became too much, it became to forward heavy hence suspension upgrades so even if suspension ONLY solved the redistribution of weight to be more balanced that still invalidates gaijins claims that the suspension couldnt support it.
They literally have the ingame weight match the existing IRL weight as “if it had DU” inserts so there entire point is dead, if they want to claim weight issues then remove the added weight DU causes so the Abrams are no longer near 70 tons in weight in game they cannot have this crap both ways, if they somehow think the 70 tons is without DU then I want to see the source on that as well, they havent provided a source proving the suspension was never upgraded to support such weight increases either.
I would personally still take the offensive power of the extra mobility and ability to go hull down over even the fixed protection values of TUSK II any day though.
its a problem with all western ERA with other tanks the ERA is the only difference that why i think gajin won’t allow people to remove it
i have the opposite view id rather be slower if I’m able to take a hit from an ATGM
considering most ATGMs at top tier are either top attacks or BMP2M then its pointless cz they will simply not be aiming at the ERA full stop, especially BMP2M players who can pen the turret
help from the sides and heils
I think it depends on playstyle and the tank itself.
The Challengers for example is already slower and has good ERA coverage so it benefits more from the ERA.
The Abrams is a mobile tank and depends on it’s mobility to survive. It also has pretty lackluster ERA coverage so it won’t really benefit from the ERA.
again moot point, at top tier most are not using ATGMs that TUSK would defend against, they are either using top attacks which bypass anything because “top down” and helis you could “maybe” argue but considering most helis have tandem 800mm+ pen ATGMs TUSK wouldnt defend against that either.
Stripping the weight would be a much better solution all round, at least with Chally ERA it “can” defend against tandems especially on the TES with its doubled ERA setup but still suffers
im talking in general for all western ERA
A good reason why not put the same array into the turret is because the turret is very likely to be better armored, and with more volume you can design a more survivable armor given the same weight. If you don’t have space constraints, use that space. It’s literally in my comment which evidently you didn’t read fully.
I cannot “reach” when I say the two arrays are made of different materials because I never said that. You said it, not me.
in general for what? western tanks dont just face chinese/ussr tanks, they often face each other in game and most nations have top attacks, and most nations have a heli or 2 with tandem ATGMs, it really is a moot point
not sure how good tusk should be but the ERA on the TES should be able to stop tandem warheads and not have the same CE protection as Kontact 1
M1A1FEP have improved suspension
yh it does stop tandems but not anything above 800mm tandem side on so this means almost all helis can pen it but considering helis are more above than side on it makes ERA like this even worse because it really isnt doing much beyond added weight. when a heli can fine tune the guidance to ignore the ERA sections or go in a better angle that might ignore part of the ERA entirely
its just annoying that it left at 400 in game like what is the point
