This missile on paper is way better than the AGM-65 Maverick, but in real use cases theres a huge issue with its guidance.
When launched, the missile dives towards the ground and starts terrain following, the problem with this is that in 99% of situations this dive causes the missile to lose its lock (point or track), and when it loses it’s lock it just becomes useless and starts flying towards infinity until either it crashes or it’s battery runs out.
The missile currently straight up doesn’t use IOG or GNSS to go to the last position of lock. Making it effectively useless in almost all GRB maps in the entire game. It’s only good for hunting down boats/ships in this current implementation.
I don’t understand why Gaijin doesn’t give a crap about this thing when it could actually help US CAS move on from Mavericks. But no, lets keep adding fake stuff like the 38MT.
It might limited by the in game mechanics as the only things with LOAL are missiles with laser guidance. The problem is that it does have GNSS on paper, but IR for some reason prevents GNSS from ever kicking in.
They should atleast add an option to disable the ground tracking and just make it fly straight at the target like AGM-65’s do. It would atleast be usable that way.
So sad to see a missile with such potential to be implemented in the WORST way possible.
@Smin1080p_WT can we get some type of word/info on this? Will the guidance be fixed or is the missile gonna keep staying like it currently is.
I kinda think that the cruise altitude is because they don’t want to implement lock on after launch ability so the slammer once it loses lock it drifts out of the map… this way it is less probable for it to lose lock
All TV and IR missiles have LOAL, its just very limited to the small area where the ground lock was made, if a vehicle passes through it within seeker range the missile would automatically lock. Smart LOAL is needed for SLAM-ER to be useful where the missile hugs the ground, pops up near gnss point and then scans a wide area for targets (would still have issues since it would then likely lock a wreck instead of a player…)
