I recently tried Air Sim battles, but have quite a few questions concerning the ballistic computer and the mechanism of calculating RP and mission points in sim battles.
I am using the US F4S premium pack to bomb bases or use Mighty Mouse rockets to destroy airfields. But in my understanding, once I activate ballistic computer, there should be an indicator helping me aim my bomb or rockets, but I don’t see it in the cockpit view. I know how to use CCPR for bombs but I think CCRP is one step further from using ballistic computer?
I can see there is a diamond shape at my cockpit view, and I thought it was the indicator for my rockets, but then I found it would still be on my screen even if I turned off ballistic computer for my rocket. (photos attached)
I heard that within 15 mins interval you will get most efficient RP if you got 500 mission points, so you should just bring just enough bombload for one base. But I am not sure if that is true. Could anyone enlighten me about the RP and mission points mechanism in Air Sim battles?
As for bombs and rockets using CCIP. You need to set a keybind for changing the cockpit sight mode and then cycle through the modes (though the sight mode should in theory automatically change to correct mode when you select the weapon and then just place the reticle over the target and fire.
Let me check in game and see if there is any issues. 1 sec for that.
As for this. I personally wouldnt frett too much. Take off, head for a target, keep an eye out for enemy contacts en-route, hit a target(s) and RTB. In something like the F-4S, 2x napalm is a very effecient loadout to have alongside your A2A fit for destroying a base. I personally focus more on the “mission” i’ve decided upon for that sortie rather than min-maxing score for maximum rewards. Though typically doing anything and surviving gives way more than doing a lot and dying
There is a setting idr what its called but somthing like switch sight mode in cockpit, that should bring up the ccip or ccrp for the sight in the cockpit.
This is your CCIP indicator. Align that with the target and your bombs or rockets should hit the right spot.
Definetly make sure you have a keybind set for:
because it doesnt always seem to swap but does most of the time.
The reticle can quite easily drop below the FoV of the HUD if you dont have suffecient airspeed (and so the weapons wouldnt hit anywhere in the FoV of the HUD) So the reason you cant see it in the image above is because you are too slow. Try climbing to say 1500m and then dive down onto the target at Mach 0.8/0.9 with even just a 20 degree angle. The reticle should be really clear
Same for bombs, you’ll need a decent speed or a slight dive bomb for the reticle to appear. Though should note, if you use drag bombs, the reticle very rarely actually appears, so CCRP is advised for those
Hey there, pilot. Great to see someone giving Air Sim a proper shot; most folks bail after the first stall-spin crash. You’re flying the F-4S a beautiful beast, but she demands precision.
Let’s go over your questions step-by-step:
1. Ballistic Computer & Rocket Aiming (HUD stuff)
That diamond you see in the cockpit isn’t tied to the ballistic computer. It’s your CCIP pipper (constantly computed impact point). The ballistic computer only assists when you have CCIP or CCRP enabled.
For rockets, you’ll only get CCIP when you’re flying level and steady, nose below the horizon line, and the computer has time to calculate impact.
If you switch to CCRP, that’s for guided release (like for bombs). You mark a point on the ground, and the computer will handle the timing when you press and hold the drop key.
In cockpit view, the F-4S’s HUD is a bit primitive. If you want a clear view, use the “Virtual Cockpit” or “HUD Only” mode in Sim settings much more readable.
2. RP and Mission Point System
You heard right about the 15-minute efficiency window. The system calculates your RP based on activity in 15-minute intervals meaning if you earn 500 points in that timeframe, you get full credit for that “segment.”
Bombing one base efficiently (instead of overloading and wasting time returning) keeps your sortie short and your RP-per-minute high.
Hitting 500–600 mission points every 15 minutes is the sweet spot.
Don’t forget to stay alive. Dying before the 15-min mark cuts the RP you’d have earned for that cycle.
3. Extra Tip from Someone Who’s Been There
Don’t rely too much on Mighty Mouse rockets for base bombing. They’re better for light vehicles or “rocket artillery” runs. Use the 500 or 1000 lb bombs instead; they’re more predictable with CCRP.
And always trim your aircraft the F-4S has the personality of a drunk dolphin if you don’t.
Fly safe, and low! keep your wings level, and remember every sortie in Sim is a lesson in discipline, not luck.
