How to play bombers in 2026?

I am confuse. So there is a maximum rewards in Sim… and after 15 minute in the same match you can do the same thing and get the maximum rewards? or do I just leave after getting 1050 score and find a new match?

cant really help you since i dont play bombers

i simply dont enjoy their gameplay

then tell me about fighters… I will play them when I get more use to it.

There you go. Just a group of buildings. Its important to know that the bases always have a couple silo type buildings. That is important when distinguishing them from other groups of buildings.

I though the max score was about 600?

Good advice. Bombers have a very hard time in RB. I enjoy bombers and strike aircraft in Arcade, but definitely not a fun time for bombers in RB.

I agree. Even the B-29 has a hard time imo in Arcade nowadays. Many many years ago it was a bit different, but with so many vehicles that can climb like a bat out of hell you will most likely die before reaching a base in Arcade now. It can be done, but it’s hard/rare to be able to get multiple bomb loads out. If you have a group/squad that can fly cover for you then the situation becomes better.

Yep!

Every 15 minutes, there’s a new “useful actions” cycle.

You earn rewards for score and time survived, not actions.

So say I fly out in my Bf 109 F4. I kill 1 player. I get 450 score and 0 SL and 0 RP.

I stay alive for 15 minutes.

I now earn like 1500 RP and I can’t remember how much SL.

I land. I gain the left-over 375.

I take off again, get 2 kills (900 score).

I stay alive for 15 minutes.

I get 2000 RP this time.

Why?

200 points = 54% reward
400 points = 75% reward
600 points = 86% reward
800 points = 90% reward
1050+ points = 92% reward

As such, you optimally want to aim for 600 points per life.

Bombing example:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1MRIUI0kbGzS3-qvJGZGWk-BN4crV_z8uHzug82ho4Sg/edit

I take off with my Bf 110 G-4.

I am armed with EXACTLY 1 SC800B bomb.

I drop it on a base.

I get 440 score.

Cue same cycle as with the Bf 109 F4.

my own data:

From my gameplay,

A6M3, 15 minute gameplay. No landing, so 0.8x of final value.

0300 score - 5874 SL, 1485 RP,
1050 score - 7974 SL, 1978 RP,
1812 score - 8063 SL, 2001 RP,
1950 score - 8064 SL, 2001 RP,
2653 score - 8062 SL, 2001 RP.

(I have no idea why 1950 is 1 SL more than 2653. I guess rounding errors?)

Bf109F4, similar 15 minutes. IIRC same SL/min (or almost the same).

200 score - 4734 SL, 1175 RP,
431 score - 6833 SL, 1695 RP,
600 score - 7537 SL, 1870 RP,

From taken from random score screenshots I have saved, only full 15 minute flights.

Way different economy values but for completeness sake for trends:

F3H-2, 15 minute scores.

295 score - 12314 SL, 2294 RP
450 score - 14520 SL, 2705 RP
590 score - 14520 SL, 2910 RP
669 score - 15982 SL, 2978 RP
886 score - 16542 SL, 3082 RP
896 score - 16725 SL, 3316 RP

Mustang Mk Ia
1567 score - 22412 + 5603 landing bonus

Theoretical maximum: 2030 x 15 = 30450

Actual maximum: 28015/30450 = 92.00%!

The pattern persists across 4 aircraft tested if you properly treat the landing bonus.

It very hard to see… But I manage to get the base using the P-51 incendiary bombs. Using the B-17 cover in cloud is really not easy.

What if I do nothing and fly around 15 min in sky and land do I get rewards? Because I got 2 hit on the enemy and died and it was around 15 min in the sky and I got 2k RP. Ok so to clarify this… IF i want to get more rewards I must land every 15 minute or else the rest of the rewards dosen’t count? or is it every 15 minute I survie in the sky that will give me the rewards even if I didn’t land. AND once i reached 1050 score in the match I can leave because the reward is no big difference.

Id say stay away from B17’s As they are totally nerfed into the ground (any bomber really) and so none of them can take the abuse like they could in real life. So I’d just say you don’t :p

No, you don’t. You must earn score.

You spawn in. Timer starts. 15:00. 14:59. 14:58… Up until it hits 0 and checks your score.

If you have score, then you get rewards accordingly:

200 points = 54% reward
400 points = 75% reward
600 points = 86% reward
800 points = 90% reward
1050+ points = 92% reward

54% of what?

Your stat card! Your stat card when you have sim selected shows “SL/min”. Multiply that by 15 and then the above reward percentage and you got your SL. RP-wise, we don’t have official stats but the Bf 109 F4 with 136% RP modifier earns 2000 RP every 15 minutes with the 92% cap. Meaning, you take 2000/136x214= 3147 to get the F3H-2 equivalent. Which is approximately true based on my own data (I’m guessing the 896 entry may have had a booster maybe? Would need to re-check).

However, notice that the 2000 RP for the bf 109 F4 is without landing. if you land, you get the remaining 500 (500 is 20% of 2000/0.8=2500).

What happens if you die before 15 minutes?

You get SL/min x time alive x reward%. We don’t know the exact reward% for times other than 15 minutes, but usually the scaling is less favourable than 1:1 match with the 15 minute cycle.

Do note however that if you die to another player, you earn 130 score. This can be significant - so never J out or intentionally crash.

Must you land all the time? Nah, but it benefits you. 20% of your reward is locked behind landing. I recommend landing before full 30 minutes elapse though to avoid losing the 20% of the first 15 minutes (although people say you re-gain it if you take off and land again? I haven’t really tested.)

Also, make sure to learn comms for sim.

If someone does “Attention to grid square!” and it shows as green in your chat (or you know it’s near your position) - respond with “Follow me!” (default T-4-1). Likewise, if you see people go “Follow me!” in your vicinity, respond with your own. This is how people avoid wasting time chasing a friendly as a rudimentary replacement for radio and IFF at prop tiers. T-4-2 is cover me - use it when attacked AND use it after you got shot down before bailing: it warns your team where the enemy is.

If you wanna be “useful” in sim - targets of importance are tanks (they give the most tickets. Matches are won and lost based on who kills the most tanks. Do be prepared for people trying to kill you if you go for these though but in sim you’ve got significant advantages vs fighters if you pay attention and use your gunners well), then bases and only attack airfields if there’s no targets. Avoid the convoys because they WILL kill you unless you’re flying very high (and good luck hitting them with a dumb bomb if so - big bombs can do it. Something for Pe-8s and Lancasters). Boats are pretty poor reward/score, but can be fun to attack in a group of torpedo bombers.

Does this only apply to Sim?

yes bc air sim is the only gamemode that has the useful actions system

which will make you earn less RP and SL in an hour of sim than in 20 minutes of ARB

I use the mouse lol, in my opinion it’s very easy and fun.

When I tired it I gotta keep pulling my mouse down or else the plane is gonna drop to the ground. Very tiring.

alr another part is how do I dogfight? I pull to hard my plane will loose it control and end up crashing. I was trying to use the P-51D-30 but once i pull too hard in turning it will roll it self and end up in a spin. Is there any way I can set it maximum AOA?

Trim. Wing teaches it best

I’d avoid the D mustangs for now. They’re a little unstable and fuel amount makes them very sensitive.

Playing with fuel amount and observing how it affects stability

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNpVGfPWmu4

For learning to dogfight, the Bf 109 F4 is one of the best aircraft IMHO. It’s fairly stable while still being vulnerable and punishes abuse. it’s got decent visibility, a nice gunsight and can take the fight to nearly everything one way or another except for Lf Mk IX/Ki-84.

For allies, the F4U-4 and P-51C mustangs are also excellent. P-38 too, but there’s extra workload in flap management.

For how to dogfight, it’s prudent to understand what is happening at the baseline.

First: Why did you roll when you pulled too hard?
Answer: Assymetric wing-loading due to a number of issues. The most general one is known as “adverse yaw”

Adverse yaw: In aircraft with conventional ailerons, upon turning you produce extra drag on the OUTSIDE wing compared to the inside one. This causes your nose to get pulled towards the draggier wing, disrupting airflow over that wing even further. Additionally, the angle of attack relative to the wind changes as a consequence causing one wing to experience critical angle of attack even faster.

How to counter it: Step on the ball.

image

To center the ball we need to use our rudder to bring it to align our plane into the airstream and we do that by “stepping” on it: Ball points to the left, input left rudder. Ball points to the right, input right rudder.

Done well, you can drastically increase the amount of AoA you can pull before departing controlled flight AND you also reduce the amount of energy you burn AND you also tighten your turn! This is called “Flying coordinated.”

However, do beware not to over-do it. If the ball is on the outside of our turn, we experience something known as “sideslip.” Sideslip is relatively benign and there are techniques to intentionally introduce sideslip to turn your plane into an airbrake - often done to lose altitude in landing scenarios where you need to come in from up high or can’t go around. What sideslip does is it makes your outside wing stall first. As a consequence, the “upper” wing drops and your plane becomes level allowing you ample time to ease stick forward to reduce AoA and to use rudder to counter the incipient spin.

On the other hand, if the ball is on the INSIDE of our turn, we experience a skid. Skids can be lethal as they drop your lower wing, causing you to flip upside down quite violently and gives you very little time to recover before entering a fully developed flat spin.

Coincidentally - intentionally introducing skid is a great way to practice stall recovery. You climb to 2km altitude, stomp left rudder and start turning to the left as hard as you can. You’ll immediately start spinning incredibly violently, giving you a chance to practice PARE:

  1. Power OFF
  2. Ailerons NEUTRAL
  3. Rudder OPPOSITE
  4. Elevators forward/nose down.

Some aircraft do better with power ON and some aircraft benefit from playing with flaps, but in most cases following the above will recover a spin. Damaged aircraft may not always be recoverable.

In real-life, skid-induced stalls often happen when trying to land and refusing to go around.

I’ve additionally mentioned “incipient spin” and “rudder” and stuff.

With experience, you can observe your wing starting to drop and immediately correct it by inputting opposite rudder. One great way to practice this is the “Falling Leaf” training maneuver.

If you can hold your plane steady for 15-30 seconds while executing falling leaf, you’ll lose control far, far less often in dogfights because you’ll have developed muscle memory to recognize and react appropriately.

Once you got a grip on your flight controls, Requiem has some great gunnery tutorials:

My personal addendum: Do not be frugal with your bullets. Shoot whenever you think you got a chance to hit AND hold down that trigger! 1 second burst if you feel you got a good shot, not just tap tap tap. I found 90% of my “hit!” turned into kills once I actually did a proper burst whether with mg151 or .50 cals.

For actual dogfighting tips - beyond joining an LFG discord and practicing with someone in customs I recommend the following:

Beyond that, watching stuff from Captain Squishface, IdahoBookworm, Enigma, Sheriff Sim Shack, TrainingDays and BrigadierFox can be a learning experience - these folk do prop tier sim fighting, do it properly and well and upload to youtube. Enigma & training days has breakdown videos. Squishface has duel videos and general plane reviews in a sim context. Sim Shack and Idaho have gameplay videos. Fox has shorts.

Are you using “mouse joystick” mode?

LEGION’s Loadouts 2.18 – Line of Contact – War Thunder Bomb Chart - Google Drive
Check your plane (B-17E) above 5.0

The clue is to show yourself as the most unconvinient target for your enemy.
You can climb at 10 degrees on your case and/or do a wide sideroute. Let the other bombers (base stealers) be bait. Bases respawn at like 12 minutes left on the clock, the whole keep the climb, once you are done, no more runs, sneakily get to 4km of alt and get behind your main airfield, land and leave.
Take your time, if the enemy activates a blind hunt, that’s just free 5k SL for you.

BUT PLEASE LEAVE, don’t be toxic or suicidal.
