Someone posted a screenshot from a 1990 F-4C & F-4D flight manual showing AN/ALE-40 chaff / flare dispensers on the loadout list and tried to use it to get flares on the F-4C. However they left out the bit of the table which states that only the F-4D could use the dispensers.
It took over a year for someone else to track down a copy of the manual and post an image showing the full table, confirming that the original report was incorrect.
