Among the boats that the Germans left behind in Norway after the conclusion of peace in 1945 were the MTBs S9, S 12 and S 48.
These were first taken over by the Americans as spoils of war, but later handed over to the Norwegian navy, which gave them the names BLINK, KJEKK and KVIKK. In addition to the three above-mentioned boats, the Norwegian navy in 1946/47 acquired twelve former German MTBs that had been in English and American ownership.
These were S 10, S 21, S 64, S 76, S 85, S 98, S 117, S 174, S 195, S 210, S 302 and S 303. These were named LYN (S 64) STORM (S 85 ), NIGHT (S 98), DESPITE (S 117), RAPP (S 174), HANDSOME (S 195), QUICK (S 210), BLINK (S 302), BRAND (S 303). The other three boats, S 10, S 21 and S.76, kept their German numbers.
Of the ex-German MTBs, the older, already worn-out boats (ex S9, 10, 12, 21, 48) were scrapped shortly after the takeover and used as spare material. The names BLINK, KJEKK and KVIKK were taken over by the newer boats ex S 302, S 195 and S 98.
The boats STORM, TROSS, RAPP, SNAR and KJEKK formed squadron E 1-5 for a short period. By Royal Decree of 3 February 1950, it was decided to sell S 10, S 21, S 76 as well as RAPP, KVIKK and SNAR.
In 1951, 6 of the remaining boats, LYN - STORM-TROSS - KJEKK - BLINK and BRAND were transferred to the Danish Navy, where they were named STORMFUGLEN TRANEN - HEJREN-LOMMEN - FALKEN and TAARN- FALKEN respectively. Before the transfer to Denmark, LYN had been at the Marinens Hovedverft in Horten since 1948 for tests with gas turbines.
E-boat was the English term for the German Schnellboote and stood for “Enemy boats”.
