Guided 500kg bombs. Which is the core difference here.
Buc S1 barely carries more bombs than something like the Canberra which can be taken, and is waaaaay slower than the Buc S2 which you are probably thinking off.
Whether or not it kills is largely dependent on RNG, but the ability to fire essentially without aiming and the target having no ability to dodge it. Makes even 4x 500kg bombs quite dangerous, or if nothing else, annoying. Especially if we look at what most actually have which is 2-3x 1000lb unguided bombs, with no CCIP at that BR.
and if you want an even more appropriate equivalent, then the early A-4s were also denied usage in naval
Guided bombs aim for a random exposed module on the ship
Which includes AAA mounts
So you’ll have 500kg bombs hitting AAA mounts instead of anything critical
Also A4s get AAM and a much larger bomb load
They aim for 1 of 3 points along the length of the ship. Forward turrets, centre and rear turrets.
Assuming you drop 2-3 on a target, its a reasonable chance that at least 1 will hit the forward or rear turrets.
Whilst it is not a guranteed kill, there is a good chance that even a 500kg bomb, hitting the deck, could do a lot of damage in this area. Ive seen Bravys one shot something like a Graf Spee before. and those missile are smaller than the 500kg bomb.
But even a 500kg bomb hitting the main citadel is going to cause a lot of crew damage. And this being a weapon that can be fired from 4-6km? away and basically a guranteed hit gives that a huge advantage over trying to do the same with unguided bombs and no CCIP. You’d have to test it, but I would be confident that 4x 500kg bombs would kill more than a few ships that it could actually face.
The bomb load isnt that significant, especially if the main concern was guided weapons. 2x 9Bs I dont think are an issue in this context. Heck I can take the Javelin for CAP if I want with 4x Firestreaks.
Its just… wierd. Thats all. That guided weapons have been mostly blocked from naval, even from weak and slow platforms like the A-4s, F-117, etc and stronger unguided platforms like the Buc S1, or even aircraft like the Scimitar have likewise been blocked.
Just feels a bit like… double standards. Kinda like those that get SAM ships to fight these and those that dont.
Laser guided AP bombs
Yeah this makes 0 sense, why are there missile destroyers at 5.3???
or more importantly. Why are they only on 3 trees and have been for 2 years. And the other 4 trees have nothing yet.
Even more annoying when the US just got a second
