Thanks. Since it’s an encyclopedia, which often oversimplifies things, I’m taking it with a grain of salt and questioning its accuracy and credibility. The book was published in 1998, so it’s likely that not much information about the F-14D was available at the time.
Here’s the background of the authors and editor:
Since two of them served in the US Air Force and one worked with the US Naval Institute, they may have some credibility, as they could have had access to highly sensitive or classified information.
Here’s the acknowledgement regarding how they obtained such data:
It definitely sounds trustworthy. However, the authors did not provide sources to back up the data on the F-14D, so we can’t be certain of its accuracy.
Nevertheless, it’s interesting, thanks for sharing. I’m curious to hear what others think about this.
“The only completely new weapon adopted by the F-14D was the AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile)” - Grumman F-14 Tomcat (Crowood Aviation) | David Baker
Yeah. That makes sense. I will still hope they add the Black Lion’s one though. Especially because the F/A-18C’s Late Default Livery is a high-vis squadron theme.
There’s a 0% chance Iran doesn’t have the F-14D manual. Publicly available VPNs can get you access to it very easily. Unfortunately, Gaijin can’t do anything about it because of that label.
Nah , i don’t think it has much to do with that… the manual .
Not even the APG-71. There are enough data in the net that you can make the plane as much realistic as the others (none of them is 100% anyway and many things are guesswork anyway or from 3d party sites) .
The problem is…AIM-54s.
There is no point bringing a F-14D that must go 13+ BR anyway , but give it the nerfed Phoenixes we have now. And if you give it un-nerfed Phoenix community will go crazy. They still can’t with F90 , imagine something that is as fast, but pulls better and has ECCM capabilities…! And with the right flight profile , aka topping you down. Yes… with that playerbase.
So , either they release it and go all the way or they don’t.
yeah I saw. Kinda upset this is kinda a nothing update but that just gives me more hope next update is navy jets Mig-29K, Superhornet, F-14D, J10C etc…
IMO, it should be the low-visibility Tomcatters livery like the one shown below. The Tomcatters are simply too iconic to leave out. The good news is that the Felix the Cat mascot design is in the public domain, so Gaijin likely won’t run into major copyright issues. That said, it’s important not to label it as “Felix the Cat,” since the name is still trademarked and owned by DreamWorks, and therefore protected under copyright law.
Was browsing around www.detailandscale.com and came across their latest F-14 Tomcat publication, which references the F-14D NATOPS manual for performance figures and technical specifications. 👀
While the author might not include exhaustive details, this book could be a strong secondary source, just a step below a primary one, while also still being legally accessible.
For anyone interested, here’s the link to the book. I’m thinking of getting the e-book version soon to see if it contains any new or useful information.
That Rate of climb for the F-14B and D are amazing… Again rivaling stuff at the top of those records like the Eurofighter Typhoon. From a carrier deck to max altitude in ~90 seconds… Crazy stuff.
I heard the “classified” document for the F-14D that was leaked was actually public information and unclassified. However selling/redistribution was not allowed
