Idk about the Egyptian f16 platform but I was more thinking about the F/a-18C early w/ apg65/ayq9(v) sms ( I assume it has the ayq9(v)) I don’t understand how gajin gave it aim7p-2 but not to the f14D because what does that aircraft have that the f14D is missing for aim7P-2

It would be fun to have F16 that can only shoot AIM-7P2, but Egyptian F16 was an Dead End:
The EAF wishes to procure a unique version of the F-16 Block 50/52 that will be capable of firing the medium-range AIM-7 Sparrow radar-guided missiles that are currently in the EAF inventory.

In order for the new aircraft to fire AIM-7 Sparrow as requested, a modification of the avionics package is required.

(EGYPT: COUNTRY TEAM ASSESSMENT FOR THE PROCUREMENT OF TWENTY-FOUR (24) F-16 BLOCK 50/52 AIRCRAFT TO SUPPORT THE GOVERNMENT OF EGYPT NATIONAL DEFENSE MISSION (UNCLASSIFIED), Wiki Leak)

Finally de compression in the near future hopefully

Spoiler

Yeahhh and bring back the @30x170_APDS-T as well

THIS. IS. NOT. A. DRILL.

We are getting a researchable F-14D in the next update. VICTORY!

While it’s great to see it getting added, I won’t be content until we get genuine upgrades. Without AIM-7Ps across the board or the Mk 60 motor for the AIM-54, it’s just not going to be viable at its BR. Hopefully, the community stays vocal so we actually get a proper version of it.

Of course, it was just a major battle we won.

However, I recommend lowering expectations regarding the AIM-120s and AIM-7P Block II for the F-14D. Instead, we should advocate for AIM-7M H-Build, AIM-7P Block I, and another AIM-54 with a different motor.

We can try to argue for AIM-95, AIM-7R, and perhaps ACIMD, but they all warrant as standalone suggestions. Sadly, these weapons were not directly integrated on the F-14D.

Hope both F-14D will get a 7P. This is the last thing that are the real weapon that it can carry. (I’m ok with no AMRAAM).

otherwise we have 3 tomcats in 13.0… only being able to hit AFK players with those slow AIM-54s

I respectfully disagree - at minimum, we should 100% continue the fight for the F-14D with AIM-120’s. As I mentioned in the Community Update thread after only about 1 hour of research - I found multiple unclassified sources about the F-14D getting AMRAAM’s from the GAO’s website. Official, allowed to be viewed by all, government documents. Including a report from 1994 comparing the F/A-18C with proposed ground attack upgrades to F-14A/B models and the F-14D - in which it specifically mentions the software upgrade for F-14D that the Navy was and fully intending to make to make them capable - including a chart that references the F/A-18C and F-14D as AMRAAM capable aircraft.

Not sure it really needs more advanced AIM-7’s after that, not that they couldn’t hurt for any scenario they might be better. But considering we have all kinds of official documentation - that is not classified, and literally from government offices saying ‘it was supposed to have them’, and things like the Yak-141 and F-15C Golden Eagle exist in this game - there is absolutely no reason we shouldn’t have an F-14D that has the damn software patch for AIM-120’s.

So was I.

Again, these GAO documents provided insights into the F-14’s service and argued for additional funding from Congress to provide the Navy with a sufficient budget to upgrade the F-14 fleet with AIM-120 integration. They asked for additional funding, and they 100% would get it done.

The thing is, it never happened in reality. That’s the point of Gaijin’s refusal to give the F-14D its AIM-120s in the game.

Yes, plans to give the F-14D AIM-120s existed in real life, but they have proven insufficient to change Gaijin’s mind. At this point, you need to rally people to be vocal and in agreement about giving the F-14D AIM-120s in the game.

I am all for it, but my efforts to fight for giving it AIM-120s have been exhausted in this thread. I don’t mean to discourage the continuation of the fight for the F-14D’s hypothetical AIM-120s. I was saying that this would be much harder to convince Gaijin to make additional changes to the F-14D. You still have my support for the AIM-120s, though.

Mind that
Mk 60 motor AIM-54 is a universal addition to all F-14 variants since the 1970s.

AIM-7M H-Build is a universal addition to all US fighters since the late 1980s.

AIM-7P Block I is a universal addition to F-14 A+/B/D since the 1980s. The only functional difference between AIM-7P Block I and AIM-7M for F-14 A+/B/D is that it has a more sensitive fuze against incoming anti-ship missiles, which nearly never happens in War Thunder gameplay. Changing the name of AIM-7M to AIM-7P Block I in the F-14 B/D loadout tab should be sufficient to indicate the “change”.

None of those changes is F-14D-specific.

That’s not the right approach.
AMRAAMs for the F-14 argument is sustained by (unfortunetly) weak arguments, as people have countlessly proved in this forum (and even gaijin itself).
The thing we should and MUST advocate for, is the correct modelling of the AIM-54 Phoenixes, the C variant, for example, was comparable to AMRAAMs in performance, and this is stated by multiple, real life, pilot accounts.
Gaijin butchered phoenixes, they didn’t give us the proper motor, and modelled its current mk.47 engine wrong, we are missing around 1500 m/s of delta V!!!

Furthermore, the current, premium F-14D(R) is a retrofitted F-14A with better avionics.
The new, tech tree, F-14D is not a retrofitted model, but a production vehicle.
Weirdly, there’s a greater probability we end up getting AMRAAMS in the (R) variant than the production one, since they tested AMRAAMS in an F-14A with avionics from the D variant, curiously, what the F-14-D(R) would become (almost).

The only comparable thing is the seeker between AIM-120 and AIM-54C+.

They don’t trust pilot accounts since they are considered unreliable.

AIM-54 is buffed with variable thrust depending on pressure/altitude; I believe that’s capable of achieving higher thrust at higher altitude.

AIM-54 buff is still 1500 m/s lower than it should be. Just check the dedicated Phoenix topic…

Plus, there’s literally no difference between C and C+ ingame right now. As per usual Gaijin behaviour.

It’s not. The premium F-14D, according to its BuNo, is a production F-14D.

We don’t know whether the new TT F-14D is a production F-14D or a retrofitted F-14D, but I assume it will be another production F-14D.

I recalled the discussion on that, but I got lost in that thread, and the search function is broken. Please point to the post in that thread to refresh my memory.

This is an F-14D thread. A universal performance buff to the AIM-54 for all F-14s should not be a compromise for proposing a unique, historically planned F-14D upgrade variation.

AMRAAM was only test-fired on the F-14A in STT mode is not an argument against putting AMRAAMs on the F-14D. The US Navy only planned to equip the F-14D with the AIM-120.
