It’s not at all that simple from what I’ve watched about it. They weren’t very far off from each other if I remember it. Hwoever, the areas where the yf23 was better, it was much better. Where it was worse, it was only slightly so. There was also more than just that decision that went into it. It’s speculation based on “experts” opinions and those familiar with it. However it was hinting at a lot more things that went into it and that Lockheed Martin got ahead of schedule and wowed them with having weapons ready if I remember right. Northrop stuck to the contract requirements. As well as bad blood at that moment over the b2 and other stuff.
Yeah as soon as the US issued “leave by any means necessary as soon as you can.” I assume they know what’s coming, and since they didn’t say it like they did when they had issue Russia was invading, I think it’s safe to assume it’s Israel doing it if it happens.
The YF-23 had better stealth characteristics and a new wing design, the YF-22 was only chosen because it was cheaper and deemed less risky.

Thanks to sudo_su on the F-14AM thread we’ve got more information on the radar of the IRIAF F-14A.
I can’t speak Persian but thanks to sudo_su’s translation we got a rough understanding, this pretty solid source apparently from the Iranians claim a 50% to 100% improvement to the tracking range of the AWG-9 or AWG-9 National Radar.
This basically confirms improvements on the avionics and mainly the radar by the looks of it so far
Just the like J-11A there aren’t any declassified manuals on the IRIAF F-14A so secondary sources and claims from Iranian officials are the best we’ve got.
