Get the F-16XL in the Space Program Event!

I could be mistaken but it appears to me that Gaijin’s version of the F-16XL is the same length as a standard F-16. It should be 56 inches longer because of 2 fuselage sections added to the airframe in the front and rear.

Preferably as tech tree, of course.

i mean they where conformal hard points similar to the aim7 hard points on the phantom but the amraam was still under development itself so it couldn’t have possibly had live ones

feel its position like the JF17?

it had f100 during military trials it didnt get f110 until it was already at NASA
and with the f110 it was capable of super cruising

Given that it’s an incomplete prototype, it should be able to take up to six AIM-120s.

oof, I might sleep on this event

XL-1 only ever used the F100-PW-200 engine. The F110-GE-100 engine was used on XL-2 but later upgraded by NASA to the F110-GE-129.

yeah i just didn’t differentiate the 2

At the moment I’m not seeing any dispensers on the underside of the model at all
AMRAAM bays are where those are typically installed on F-16

Spoiler

Wow i hope that’s just wip because that would be ridiculous…

I thought it was weird that the JA37’s, that have 4x AMRAAM’s and 2x 9L’s when there is almost never any complaining were moved up from 13.0 in Arcade to 13.3, with the Su-30’s that have 6x RVV’s and 4x R-73E’s with IRRCM. Or that the F-16ADF somehow rated being moved to 13.7 from 13.3 when again - the Su-30’s are staying at 13.3 and we’ve had to hear that they might move up when they decompress things cause they don’t really want to put them at 13.7 to fighter higher BR things.

But now it makes sense if they want to throw this thing at 13.3 - where it doesn’t really belong with that kind of loadout in Arcade - to move the aircraft most similar to it and similarly armed to the same stage and the one that has a couple more ARH missiles up a stage. Unless they’re actually not going to completely screw it over, and put it at 13.0 seeing as something like the MiG-29N can sit there with it’s 6x RVV’s.

according to a NASA’s ‘Elegance in Flight’ book, there’s spare room in those wing pods that would have housed chaff and flare dispensers, had the plane entered production.

however in that screenshot of the model, to me it looks like those little black boxes on the fuselage might be dispensers? ridiculously lazy if that’s the case lol

They’re textured as normal ventilation grilles and are present on the standard F-16 fuselage, so I’m pretty sure Gaijin haven’t treated them as dispensers.
I did think those blisters on the wing seemed likely for CM dispensers but not seen evidence for it.

Looking through Tony Landis’ book published by the AFMC History Office, the ingame one does seem to be missing provision for centreline weapons and support pods that may have included countermeasures or ECM, and the planned FLIR pod in the usual F-16 position

Thanks for the clarification on those grilles. Never noticed them before because most f16’s are dark color so they don’t stand out.

I’d say an official NASA book about their own prototype is good enough evidence for the wing pod CM placement. But not up to me at the end of the day :)

And a better intake, so It can super cruise

god I want it.

Yep. Although would be nice for them to add XL-2 but with some more of it’s planned equipment like the better cockpit.

I already asked about making a report.

IMO it might even be able to take 8 AMRAAMS.
The 3rd to last row says specifically “(1) AMRAAM + (1) AMRAAM Launcher (MRL)”
There’s no reason to specify “AMRAAM Launcher (MRL)” if it’s just a single AMRAAM so I think that means a LAU-115 + 2x LAU-129 Rails.

Kinda weird it doesnt’ get AGM-65Ds, considering it’ll most likely be at 12.3 where you have aircraft like the Su-30 with 6x Kh-29T
