What happened?
i mean the shVAK is the strongest 20mm but rn all 20mm he onetap so…
it doesnt rlly matter
He was referencing real life :P
Strongest in what sense? There’s basically no weaker 20mm round than the ShVAK and B-20 FI-T shell weighing just 96g with merely 4.13g explosive filler. Well, there’s the German counterpart and the Ho-5 firing and even lighter shells with 4.53g filler.
Larger 20mm shells have at best 10-11g explosive or explosive-incendiary filler.
they all kill in 1 shot, that’s the issue.
no explosive filler matters since 1 firecraker is a 75% chance of wing obliteration
100%
It’s actually not 100%. Even when a surface turns black.
I tested it quite extensively, firing at IL-2s with a single ShVAK.
If you hit all over the place you can hit them 5-7 times without much effect.
Sometimes you one shot a wing or tail but often it requires two hits in the same area.
Then again, it switched my ammo from tracer to some other belt. So sometimes it was an API hit.
FI-T is the round with the most explosive filler of the shvak
No, that’s FI.
But thats only available in the stealth belt and only 1 out of 4.
It’s a bit odd that there’s more HEF in the belts as those were the pre-war shells, while the default belt has the newest shells.
FI-T didnt exist till mid 1942
does hitting spars change the probabilities?
I don’t think so. They are just modules with their own HP pool. They can also turn black without breaking.
If you think gun damage and Shvak’s in game are fine then skip to 10:38.
8 Rounds can remove the thick wing of a He-111. It took just TWO to remove the tail.
The lack of realism is a big issue, the current gun damage system is stupid.
For RB they need to weaken the instructor’s ability to mitigate battle damage. In SB when Shvak’s behaved realistically even if your wing wasn’t sawed off you felt the effects of battle damage.
Well, I tell you what they did.
They took a quasi simulator game and made it more and accessable for the masses in order to satisfy a broader audience.
More accessable means more people and more people means more money.
But it also means that the game gets dumbed down more and more.
Not to mention the addition of toxic monetization mechanics that use FOMO to get players spent time with the game, not because it’s fun. Even lootboxes to game away peoples SL or keep them grinding it.
There’s hardly any differences anymore between arcade and realistic battles, other than the artifically boosted performance of vehicles.
You don’t get games like US/GB vs. DE or RU. Now everthing just gets thrown into small arena maps, where getting “Target Destroyed” is the goal of the game.
The 7.92mm round cleanly snapped the Mustang wing in two. Every time I see a scene like this, I can’t help but tilt my head at the damage done by the Minengeschoß.
Tbf, I wouldn’t say Mineshells are bad.
I’ve had this nasty shot happen just earlier (bf 109 F-1 vs Bf 109 F-1, using “Universal” belt for Mg FF/M and stealth for mg17):
If you advance it frame by frame, the wing-snap occurs after only 2 mineshells impacting.
You’re right.
What felt off to me was that every bullet from 7mm up to 50cal has excessively high destructive power. On top of that, there’s almost no difference in effectiveness between 20mm cannons and larger calibers.
For example, if a 7.92mm round can slice through an all-metal wing, then the ShVAK 20mm cannon should realistically be able to turn an entire airplane into burning wreckage. And the Minengeschoß shells should be blowing their own aircraft apart from the blast wave reflecting back at them.
As a game, I don’t find it particularly unsatisfying, but it does feel quite unrealistic by today’s standards.
I do agree on .50s being kinda wack. 7mms I don’t mind as much as they do require being within some 200-250 meters to work well.
Cal50 does just too much damage for what it is (just a bullet with no HE power).
I remember a time in WT where cal50 did not regularly rip off wings and tail sections. At a certain point this was buffed and ever since its more or less like a cannon shell.
Currently, spars acting like armor bug has reappeared and fires seem much less common with .50cals, but they can easily demolish planes by sawing wings and tails.
A couple of days ago I took out the P-51 H and managed to cut a Bf 109s tail off.
In a head-on 😳
Against 109s, fires seem as common as always to me. Even instakill fuel explosions are quite common.
