Just go into a match with anything that carrier Magic 2. On dev obviously
If we were to rank them, I would put it AAM3 and AIM-9M ahead of the Magic just due to range. I don’t know how I feel about the R-73 yet but there’s a chance I’d put that as the worst short range IRCCM missile. Still need to use the SMT or Su-27 to know for sure.
It’s almost going to be the same here with MICAs if what I saw an explanation of all the current tested missiles are to be believed; shorter ranged but highly capable.
You are right dev Magic 2 can legit make 180° turns now tho not as impressive 180° turn than R73 but that’s still amazing.
Lol some guys testing MICA hard atm. Missile legit able to do 200°+ turn to catch a plane.
Well anyway if i had to give feedback for the MICA atm from opinions i could gather + mine : The missile in itself is modeled very well and works very fine with all due features, the only major problem spotted for now is it’s instability making it risking flatspining when pulling hard at long ranges and some seeker problems that make it act weird in some scenarios. Otherwise the missile need no changes so far.
still does the thug shaker at times and loses control
Major problem tho is as mentionned already the team size and map configuration. In order to make matchmakings still enjoyable in the Future of WarThunder i can only see three options :
- Definitely changing how matchmaking is made and abandond completely 16v16 and go back to 8v8 to 12v12 matches on big maps for top tier and small maps on lower tiers
- Changing matchmaking above a certain BR so that matches are 8v8 or 12v12 on big maps with multiple airfileds to spawn on like sim
- Creating two different Playlists :
One where you 16v16 on normal/actual maps for people that may enjoy that
The other in 8v8 or 12v12 on Big maps only in an EC type of match with several Airfields to spawn on to spread players across the map.
Currently being reported, it is due to its current instability + some seeker problems apparently.
Dunno if this will work here but credit to a person named Octavia on the discord server i where got that :

Clip of what TVC of MICA is able to do.
Yeah, MICA-EM works perfectly fine…

(of course it didn’t hit)
If you read previous messages this is a known issue MICA are currently suffering from a great instability that shouldn’t be here, it is being reported and will be fixed as it is a bug that clearly messes with the MICA capabilities
The AIM-120A is comparable to the R-77. I’m not sure how the 120A/77 stack up against the MICA-EF, Derby, and Darter, but from what I’ve heard those are the better missiles.
As far as the AIM-120B goes, it’s almost identical to the AIM-120A. There were software improvements IRL that export customers preferred, but in game they would be have mostly the same. It’s not until we get to the AIM-120Cs that ranges start to get even better.
Based on what we have currently, the 120A/77 combo is pretty fair. I just wonder if we will get AIM-120C-5s and R-77-1s not so long after the initial wave is added in order to keep up with the MICA, Derby, and Darter. Only time and testing will show whether we will need those anyways.
Right now the missiles are really buggy but the r77 is unusable in any engagement beyond 10-15 kilometers the missile doesn’t even track the target.
Is there any way to test the Fox-3s without being on the dev server event? As in a test drive or sum
No, they are currently only implemented in the devs server event tab
Nice to see ARH missiles in the works, though I think they need an alert for when the missile they have fired goes ‘Pitbull’ (acquires a lock itself and no longer requires guidance from the parent aircraft), either as an audio cue or a text alert similar to when you use flaps or airbrake.
This could also be implemented as a line of text on the HMD display for aircraft such as the F-16 which have the Helmet view modelled in-game.
I’m pretty sure this system exists in real life, but even if it doesn’t it would be a nice quality of life upgrade for using the missiles.
Additionally, in real life pilots can fire a “maddog” where the missile is fired without a radar lock and then the missile flies until it is almost out fuel before activating its radar and tracking the target.
This I understand could be considered overpowered for War Thunder, as it basically extends the “fire and forget” nature of the Fox-3 missiles to launch, not just missile activation.
that’s just SMT’s TWS being shitty
RWRs already alert you to the missile going pitbull. On the F-16C, for example, the RWR shows “MSL”, gives a hard lock warning, and shows where the missile is coming from. If you mean we should get a different notification from simply being spiked then sure that would be great.
Also to my knowledge, the AMRAAM wasnt able to be fired maddog until the C variants. I could be totally wrong on that one, but that’s what I remember hearing in other discussions.
it does when you fire it in pitbull, not when it goes pitbull after launch
