To be honest I think you’re the only person I’ve ever seen complain about the Magic 2’s. Literally everyone else considered them to among the best IR missiles in game.
Experience is one thing but schizo takes are the other. We must be playing a different game if you think that Magic 2 is worse than AIM-9L. Literally the only thing AIM-9L does better than Magic 2 is range.
Apparently you can enable sensor view while actually playing a match using the key you bind in the “Spectator Camera” menu. I’m assuming this is not intended? It’s really cool though.
If Gaijin is to keep 16 vs 16, this would be the only way to make it work. Make top tier larger maps only, add multiple 1st spawn airfields, and spread the AI targets and objectives across the front line.
However, this is probably more effort for the developers than just reducing team sizes on the current maps at top tier.
While Bel is being over-dramatic about it, Magic 2s would not be my missile of choice due to its limited range compared to the others. It often puts you in far greater danger.
that might actually be intended, at least i hope so.
many modern radars have ground mapping, HMD sensor overlay and multi target tracking data so it wouldn’t be weird to have that function in game! :)
I played the event for a bit. Considering if Gaijin still want to stick with 16v16, I would highly advise against giving modern ARH missiles due to tendency for many matches to be onesided and dictated by the team having more ARH users.
However I think we can still have a limited implementation of ARH this update no matter what, specifically in the case of J-8F - This is a huge help to this currently highly uncompetitive aircraft, and gives a hindsight to what fighting/defending a ARH missile will be like in the future.
If we were to rank them, I would put it AAM3 and AIM-9M ahead of the Magic just due to range. I don’t know how I feel about the R-73 yet but there’s a chance I’d put that as the worst short range IRCCM missile. Still need to use the SMT or Su-27 to know for sure.
It’s almost going to be the same here with MICAs if what I saw an explanation of all the current tested missiles are to be believed; shorter ranged but highly capable.
