Mica is significantly harder to notch. They refuse to give them low-smoke motors yet the missiles make your RWR scream at you, while the AIM-9X and Python 4 don’t and just follow your afterburners silently
Ikr it’s so weird, don’t know why they’re holding off on this stuff. Maybe they’re of the mindset “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”, which I get, but at the same time I would like the missiles to be represented ingame realistically. They have their multipathing feature cranked up ahistorically so I don’t know why they’re all adamant about this.
Thank you everyone so far for the support and comments, let’s keep at it hoping that they (may) do something about all AMRAAMs in the future.
Does anyone have a video that has somewhat decent quality of the aim120a firing in real life to see if it’s smokeless, if anyone wants to post about the aim54 c it’s fine.
I think that we already have enough evidence for that. The main problem is the lack of evidence for other AMRAAM capabilities, but we won’t probably find those as they are classified and export restricted because some poor ahh countries can’t step up their game and use the C-8 instead of the C-5
There is no evidence to improve the amraam maneuverabilty because the evidence states 35gs, and ingame gaijin decided to massively gimo its hobs perfomance completely artificially and generally never lulls even close to 35gs.
There is also NO evidence stating a resuction in maneuverability from aim120b to aim120c yet ingame its very noticeable how little aim120c pulls
This is outright crazy talk. C-5 is slower of the rails, pulls noticeably less yet its better at cloae range? Are you genuinely insane?
Dcs aim120c5 has better maneuverability(no absurdly long guidance delay and can actually pull up to 35gs), a reduced smoke motor, and a better seekerhead. As far as actual range goes both war thunder and dcs have it decently close to publics specs(mind you we still have no clue what the impulse on even early aim120s is accurately)

Dont use dcs as an example for the missile’s accuracy. Missile simulation in dcs is as poor as war thunder actually worse in multiplayer
That’s the issue. The AMRAAM never gets close to the 35Gs, even when needed. Again, the AMRAAM’s seeker has a longer delay than something like an R-3R, AIM-9C, ASPIDE, R530, R-24R, R-27R/ER for some reason. The only thing limiting the AMRAAM in BVR it is its shitty seeker than gets notched by not even notching (compared to the MICA which can completely ignore the fact that you are in a notch and popping chaff)
Forgot to mention that because the aim120c5 is slower off the rails it should actually have better aoa than aim120b(again no real source on reduction of maneuverability between models), slower speed means it can pull more aoa with less stress, you will see an extreme example in r73s(mica are wayy to fast to see this properly) because of the instant pull of the tvc and the fairly slow speed of the missile you cam notice that when the r73 does those insane cranks its often not even pulling many gs. Ive seen r73 pull max gimbal on a headon target and essentially do a 180 and it pulled no more than 37gs(it was for a split second it averaged out around 32 gs. Of course it has tvc do it has instantaneous authority but the aim120c5 all else being equal should pull more by virture of having a longer burning weaker motor.
Now im definetly no physicist so i likely gor stuff wrong but generally it should apply
You can easily test this yourself
When you say pulls like an aim 7, can it also be dodged by rolling while pulling, or is it safe from that?
That was my issue. Several days ago, I’ve fired an AMRAAM head on at 2 km’s (an AIM-120C-5) at an F-2. Bro just pulled on the stick and barrel rolled. Mind you that this was at 500 something meters off the ground so no multi-path existed.
I appreciate that you and I agree now.
Though you did omit the minor differences in seeker head is both in War Thunder and DCS.
As I said countless times, War Thunder lacks dual plane and will lack it until they’re finished coding for it, which likely includes dynamic drag as well.
2 km headon the amraam likely doesn’t have enough speed to pull enough gs to hit the target due to fin aoa.
Ok. It’s nice that MICA has that. Also, nerf AMRAAM
Little table I’ve made
Notice how “better speed of the rail” is a blatant lie
