i assume this was this discussed already.
thanks for the info
Would be epic to have those in the Game but i dont see someone having made a suggestion for them on the Forum
A suggestion isn’t needed, we have been told suggestions don’t actually dictate whether a vehicle will be added or not. I have been told vehicles are added based on a couple factors including demand, which wasn’t entirely true, so I don’t actually know what dictates the addition of a vehicle. All I know is, it’s unlikely we will see these for a little while, looks like this year will be another year of air focused content.
But a dedicated suggestion for each one of them would bring more attention to them, i only found out about the CATTB because of an AI Slop Video
On the old forums the CATTB did have a suggestion, and it had already been passed for consideration, so Gaijin does know about it. I was going to make a suggestion on it, the trouble I ran into was exact information on armor values (plus bad internet, can’t hardly load any of the sources). Also, a couple sources I found that had some great information required a payment to continue reading. I am not going to pay to finish a suggestion on a vehicle, which we won’t see for a long time, and will come to the game as some half baked vehicle.
I think the CATTB, Leopard 2 140, Leclerc with the 140mm Gun etc are going to be FOMO Event Vehicles like Object 292 and then only available on Marketplace and i think CATTB / Leo are going to be high demand so definitely going to cost above 100€ like Object 292 currently goes for ~170€+ on the Marketplace lol
There were 2 variants to CATTB. They were separated by “Phases” with Phase 1 being the CATTB turret on a “standard” Abrams hull (it was modified to mount CATTB turret, but same as regular M1 Abrams protection wise, still used AGT-1500). Phase 2 was the CATTB we all know, with its own hull. There is also the Thumper, which was used to test the 140mm cannon with the bustle autoloader. Pretty sure its armor protection was equivalent to a standard M1 Abrams, but I might be wrong. So we could get 3 140mm armed MBT’s for US. Make Phase 1 and Thumper as event vehicles, and Phase 2 as TT? If it was only 1 vehicle, I could understand as event, but no way they would make all 3 event vehicles.
Seeing as how most major nations have a large caliber MBT project, I think each nation should get at least one in the TT, and if they have extras either TT or event. I know Russia still has a couple large caliber MBT projects that could be added. A big concern of mine is Gaijin actually giving them the stats they showed in testing. I fear for another “marketing lie” or “propaganda” excuse to not add them in their full potential, especially CATTB.
Why not? We already had Copy Paste in BP too so they might make one Event, another BP and one Premium for 60€ or so would be my guess
Sweden seems to have build a Mock Up Prototype with an 140mm Gun and a secondary 40mm Autocannon
But wasn’t functional obviously. I wonder if we can still get it in the Game
Theres also a nice 3D Model
Italy, Japan and China didn’t made any Prototype not even Mock Up or an MBT with above 120/125mm Gun from what i can find. Only studied by China and Japan but never built
this is so profoundly stupid, its the kind of stupid that would inevitably be extremely strong ingame but useless irl
As long as the armor viewer says “wood”
They arent russians, so never gona be add… just see the last event mig 25 and then t-73 XD just gaijin things
Whats stupid about the Design? Must have some functionality if thats what actual Tank Designers came up with and felt confident enough to at least make a mock-up Prototype of it.
And according to the Article Sweden seriously considered building and using this Tank as their MBT but ultimately didn’t due to the cost of it
expensive and overgunned. you dont need 40mm autocannon ontop of a 140mm cannon, you are ampering limiting survivability to add a niche capability.
Comrade, ze Swedish wood is almost as strong as Soviet Stalinium, it will be glorious
We shall call it Swood
no no, maybe Swoodium?
Alright so, I recently was able to find a technical report on the CATTB that was through a pdf that didn’t give me an ad every 5 pages that lasted 10-30 seconds (to hell with Scribd). I found some interesting information in this pdf, although I don’t understand some parts of it. I hope by posting them I find someone who can understand them.
ALL INFORMATION IS DECLASSIFIED!
Weight
These pages appear to be weight and stuff to do with inertia. Based on these pages of information, the hull of CATTB weighed about 78,000 lbs (39 tons), according to table 4. For the pages for CATTB turret (Tables 1, 2, and 3), it has 2 different gun options when talking about weight and Moment of Inertia ( Ix(lb-in^2). I assume Gun (1) is the 120mm version of XM291, and Gun (2) is 140mm version of XM291, based on the different weights. Now this leads me to a slight hiccup, which is what the side armor thickness value refers to. There appears to be 2 different values, I’m not sure if there are 2 armor packages I’m not aware of, but what the side armor actually is (in terms of placement on the turret) can be found in the “Dimensions” section on figure 3 and page 4. Regardless, the minimum armor value stated for the “side armor” of the CATTB turret, is 40”, or 1016mm (with 50” being 1270mm). At the bottom of table 1, it shows 2 different weight values for both armor packages, with (1) being the values provided by the Gun manufacturer, and (2) being the values calculated using EMS (unsure of what this stands for). If we use the manufacturers weight, the turret appears to be 49,415lbs (about 25 tons) at 40”, and 57,795lbs (about 29 tons) at 50”. Using EMS, this puts the weight of the turret at 52,700lbs (about 26 tons) at 40”, and 61,000lbs (about 31 tons) at 50”.
So the total weight (hull + turret) of CATTB would be estimated at:
40” armor: 64-65 tons
50” armor: 68-70 tons
Page 4 (found after typing most of this out) also states that the side armor (front area (turret cheeks)) is 40” or 50” thick. Page 4 also states that the top armor (turret roof) is around 4 inches thick (around 102mm) except over the gun (?) where it is 2 inches thick (51mm). Page 4 also states that the spall liners are 1 inch (25mm) thick. No specific materials is listed for any armor layouts (at least that I’m aware of). Spall liner locations are available (in the turret at least) in figure 3 of “DIMENSIONS”.
Dimensions
These pages have to do with dimensions of the turret (note: the turrets appear to be mounted with the 120mm gun, I don’t know what LW stands for, but there was a 120mm version of the XM291). Also note that spall liners are pointed out. Figures 1 and 2 appear to be mounted without the additional armor, with figure 1 showing that the base armor is around 1 inch thick almost all around. Figure 2 looks like it shows the dimensions of the base armor. Figure 3 seems to show the CATTB turret with its add on armor equipped, plus it also shows the turret basket and gearbox for I assume turret controls? Also shows gunner and commander positions, spall liner locations, and by the looks of it, CATTB armed with the 120mm, has about 20° elevation and 10° depression?
Out of fear of losing progress, and maybe reaching the limit of words, I will end it here and do another part if I find more. Please go through the document yourself and double check all my work.
A little summary as well.
Turret thickness-
Front: 1016-1270mm
Roof: 102mm all over except over gun, 51mm
Weight: 64-70 tons.
Here are more things regarding the CATTB. Found these in a PDF of the AMC 1990 TECHNOLOGY EXPO.
Things I found for CATTB.
And some extra cool things, the HFHTB is something I think I’m gonna look into more (25mm chain gun on top of an M109 is awesome sounding).
I have now reached the part where finding information has gotten difficult. The sources I have been reading now are probably not primary sources, so I don’t think they can actually be used. I will still put them in here anyways, just in case.
Pretty much, from all these sources (plus some things I have read not from the sources), the CATTB was powered by a Cummins XAP-1000 engine. This engine was a 1682 cubic inch V12 diesel, and produced 1450hp. It was mated to an Allison transmission of some sort (said to be an 1100 series) with an alleged top speed of 43 mph and a reverse speed of about 24 mph. The CATTB utilized a bustle autoloader (the XM91), which had a fire rate of about 8-12 rpm (5-7.5 seconds per shot), and held 17 rounds in the autoloader and 22 in the hull. It is said that the XM291 had a muzzle energy about double that of the M256 120mm cannons found on the Abrams (every time I see muzzle energy listed, it’s always double of the M256, so around 18 MJ). I have read that the CATTB was equipped with both a soft kill APS (AN/VLQ-8A, found on the M1A1 HC), and a hard kill APS (Trophy). I have also read that CATTB was only fitted with a soft kill APS.
Next week, I plan on starting to call around at different places which has had the CATTB at some point, to see if I could get more information and maybe even pictures (or maybe even go see it and get pictures myself). I tried looking through budget reports and what not, usually they only ever referred to the gun (XM291) in the 120mm configuration. I am really struggling finding information on the hull, it’s full selection of tech, and information on the ammunition. Its APS selection, reload rate, and speeds, could also all use more official looking evidence. If anyone has anything, throw it out there.
