Gaijin and modern NATO armor

The composition of the NERA on the Abrams is protected.

Has the United States government ever publicly stated what type of Composite armor the Abrams uses? The only thing I have ever seen is that they admit to using DU. Nothing else.

every where i see they say it uses Chobham
never mind early abrams used it but newer ones im not sure

About the only thing I’ve seen in terms of official documentation is the Project Hindsight Revisited document, which mentions it was based off of Chobham, not necessarily exactly Chobham and there was some tech-sharing via Memorandum of Understanding.

Not the government. That’s usually stuff like Janes and such. Are there any Government documents that state they use Chobham? Or the composition of the Composite armor?

Short answer is no. As above the actual composition and design is protected information.

So is chobham the only thing know about is it only challenger 2 and its composite armour and has different names
Im sure the one the americans used is made in house but similar enough

basically. You only know what is on the Chally 1 as there is a document that was declassified for that. Everything else? Guesswork

Yeah challenger 2 is in service tank their is not a lot of info on it causing it to underperform in game especially with the add on amour of NERA and ERA on the tes having very low ce values then they should

Everything in this game from 1980 onward that is NATO is basically made up

and I’d rate Lakowski’s guesswork to be more accurate overall compared to Gaijin’s wonderful interpretation of ‘best guess’

Their best guess is always that clearly no improvement was made
Challenger 1 mk3 Nera 90s

Challenger 2 TES late 2000s Nera thats much thicker as it nera and era

They are treated as the same

One is called as an external NERA but one as ERA. Damn, those big fat ERA blocks are probably meant to stop heavy cruiser shell, rather than APFSDS.

irl they are NERA with ERA on top or something like that they are a sandwich of both

And now I’ve stolen it too

And a point I’d like to bring up is Gaijin refusing to acknowledge the fact that STANAG 4569 exists, unifying protection levels and arcs of protection on vehicles. A LOT of IFVs in the game are missing a lot of armor because Gaijin either refuses to comprehend that yes NATO can make standardized protection levels, or they want to keep it balanced but don’t want to announce they gimp armor as a balancing tool

So you’re agreeing with his definition of Dunning-Kruger? It’s when people with low aptitude in an area tend to overestimate their ability. That’s the definition he used. I can translate to Russian if that would help your understanding.

Oh, you’re Russian or at least learned Russian.
Sorry, I only speak English cause as it says on my profile, I’m American.

Oh look. Gaijin doubling down.

Fascinating.

My favoriet part is when they say “We are lacking concrete data.” Yes you are. And because it is classified you always will.

its very sad that they won’t even guess how well the ERA and NERA sandwich should be they just leave it the same as the old one and go well we have no info so we can’t do any thing
