FV107 Scimitar: Single-Edged Sword!

did some tinkering in a usermission and found that changing neutralGearRatio in the vehicles code was set to a value that made neutral steer not work on most terrain

i changed the neutralGearRatio value from 10 to 13 and it was completley fixed

also tried out changing the steering type from clutch braking to double differential and good god its actually drivable (as well as using @Sebbo_the_Plebbo brakes fix)

used this video as evidence for a bug report think people here would be intrested by this too

If anyone has more knowledge in fixing suspension parameters please message me as i want to try and correct the suspension in a user misison mod too

That looks and almost makes me feel how nice it is when fixed

Bug reporting now involves changing game code to show the devs how the vehicle should work…That is wild

That looks great, its wild how the players are better at fixing bugs than gaijin…

I know nothing about computer software but i was able to fix mobility issues (including making the suspension less trash) by changing four lines of code

War thunders coding for tanks seems to be really simple and easy to work with. it may not look the same on the backend but I now dont see why some changes can take years when a guy who is lost as soon as software is newer than 1996 is involved can do it

I also changed clutch braking for double differential steering. double dif currently speeds up the outside track instead of slowing the inside track but is close enough to accurate for changing one thing.

I have the values for accurate double dif steering radius in each gear for CVRT vehicles for if this mechanic ever gets extended to more vehicles in the vanilla game

still trying to figure out what code changes the suspension travel, the only ones I’ve found change stiffness and smoothness and shock absorbers, nothing about travel yet, thinking it might be in the vehicle model file itself and not the uk_fv107_scimitar.blkx file, will go and have a look

and you can also turn your tank into a jet turbine

I was only able to make the dampening better, travel was unfixable so i would have to agree that its elsewhere

I was so sad when it didn’t just take off and fly away!

How funny that someone random solves problems that the devs don’t even bother to try.

scimitar is my favourite tank. and ive got a few user handbooks and brochures in my possession, theres gonna be several bug reports made by myself and a few others using them soon

I’m still waiting for the Scimitar Mk2 TES.

id love to see it, laser rangefinder and thermals in with the cummins diesel for more power. id take the slat armour off as it just increases weight.

Visually it’ll be in the skeleton of the model, but I don’t know where it be physics wise though

I’d prefer a late Mk.1, the Scimmie hull is a bit lighter that the Spartan hull the Mk.2 uses

mention me if you plan on making the megathread

god i hope gaijin decides to fix the damn oversteering

Good idea i may make a megathread for the scimitar.

ill let you know when i do

You could always add both, one as a regular item in the tech tree, and the other as a premium item.
It would be great if all four TES were in the game. The Challenger 2 TES, the Warrior TES, and the Scimitar Mk 1 and 2 TES. But I’m sure Gaijin won’t do this. Why? Because it’s a good idea, and Gaijin isn’t there to do things right.

PS: It seems that the Scimitar Mk2, apart from being taller, also has added armor plates.

AFAIK That was to help with blast protection (IEDs etc) and would have fairly minor effects on kinetic protection

Scimitar 2 has a Plasan Sasa applique kit.
