OVERVIEW

In the mid-70s, spurred with the success of Fokker’s F-27 Friendship, Fokker saw the growing interest in the market for maritime patrol aircraft and so decided to offer an affordable alternative to the more complex and expensive Lockheed P-3 Orion. By 1976, Fokker was ready with the F-27M Maritime equipped with search radar and equipment to support its patrol duties. By 1980, it was officially adopted by the Royal Netherlands Air Force and Navy, as well as being bought by Spain, Angola, Philippines, and Thailand.

In 1984 the Royal Thai Navy procured three Fokker F-27-200 MPA maritime patrol aircraft to replace its obsolete Grumman Trackers, however one was lost in 1986 due to an accident. This was later replaced in 2015.

Later that year in 1984, Fokker unveiled its upgraded Maritime variants named the F-27 Maritime Enforcer and F-27 Sentinel in the UK Farnborough Airshow. The F-27 Maritime Enforcer is supposed to be the armed maritime patrol version while the Sentinel is supposed to be something akin to a light AWACS.

By 1987, the Royal Thai Navy purchased 2 F-27 Maritime Enforcer, this is however a downgraded version from the exhibition one notably lacking the MADS (Magnetic Anomaly Detector System) but all else remained the same, with the same armament options.

In Royal Thai Navy service, the unarmed F-27M Maritime aircraft serves with the 102 Squadron while the armed F-27 Maritime Enforcer serves with the 201 Squadron.

IN-GAME

The biggest contention with this one is if its possible to use the AGM-84 Harpoon in an anti-tank role, and I say, it should more or less be usable since you are just replacing the seeker with a radar guided one.

What BR should it be placed though is a whole-nother question. Personally, I think its best to be placed around 9.0-10.0 where radiation missiles start to appear balanced with its vulnerability to aircraft due to its lack of AA armament, countermeasures, and slow speed. This would be best answered though once we start to have patrol aircraft appear in the game as a basis.

In the Japanese Tech Tree, this would complement well with what it was meant to compete, the Lockheed P-3 Orion if it comes to Japan or the Kawasaki P-2J.

The Royal Singapore Air Force operates the upgraded and more modern Fokker F-50 Enforcer Mk. 2 which needs a separate suggestion and also complement the ASEAN subtree concept. Its basically a modernized F-27 Maritime Enforcer.
