Fokker D.XXIII: The Somber Swan

These buffs are ahistorical and should be reported as such. I am aware of the fact that these are wrong on the dev server.

I agree, according to its historical flight performance it’s certainly 2.7-3.0 material.

As much as I personally would love to see the WW I fighters get into the game, their response was “Go Play our other game for that” . . and it’s still not out, so . . . .
They didn’t mind making a WW I tank event, even tho you can count on your hands the total number of tank on tank battles in WW I. While I think there were 100’s of aircraft engaged with each other during that conflict.

But, if you played the WW I tank event and got into a plane, you quickly realized why we won’t see WW I as any kind of regular feature here in WT. In the RB mode they chose to bless us with, it was all you could do to keep those things in the air. Turning, combat . . . pretty much anything besides flying straight generally led to stalling out and kissing the pavement.

While I would really love to see all those cool planes in game and be able to do some real “dogfighting” of that era, I just do not see the development team being able to devote the time to anything like that and get it into the game . . . not any time soon anyway. Maybe years on down the line, if they really start needing new stuff to add to the game . … maybe then. But I won’t hold my breath.
Just cross my fingers and hope for the best . . .
🤞

Fokker’s influence on aviation was great! More Fokkers the better!

He fled Germany to the Netherlands to sell his Aircraft after they were going to bankrupt him with “retroactive taxes”, then moved to America to sell them, then founded the company that eventually became North American, of P-51 fame. (If I remembered all that right)

Great name too!

heh

Looks like i called it lol, under BR’d as hell unless the 2000kph air spawn is retribution lol. With its current ammo count 3.7 is where it should sit or 4.0

Having basically similar flight performance and ammo count to the J21s all at 2.3 classic Gaijin balancing

Meh, it has copy pasted Akan m/39 as HMGs.

It should be FN Browning 13.2mm MGs or how would Swedish FN Brownings find their way on a Dutch fighter?

Likewise it wouldn’t use the Swedish ammunition.

The Japanese 13mm Type 2 is a German MG 131 but with Japanese ammunition.

The Fokker having Akan m/39 would be if German planes had Type 2s with Japanese ammunition.

But it’s not like the air devs ever cared about something like that.

Interesting to note is that Wikipedia says the 13.2mm MGs weren’t fitted to the prototype and a German ammunition manual from WW2 doesn’t mention Dutch 13.2mm ammunition.
Which then would only leave Belgian 13.2mm ammo to be fitted.

They didn’t give it its historical ammo capacity lol. It would need a bug report but i doubt gaijin will accept it

Which would be more or less? 500 rounds feels like a lot for single HMG in an early war plane.

400 total, which gaijin had correct before they changed it if you look abive and see my post talking about it, i also compare it to another 2.3 fighter with 13.2mm

The Akan guns are exactly the FN-Browning 13.2s, simply under a different, Swedish designation. They just need to change the name and voilà

The ammunition isn’t Swedish either, iirc the AP is from Hotchkiss and the HE is developed by FN themselves

Yah it’s supposed to be 200 rounds per gun for the 13.2mm and 500 rpg for the 7.92s, we have more than double rn lmao

off-topic But the “J9 Early” isnt even a J 9 its a Late/End-war S 9C Recon Aircraft (see camera equipment in tail section) This also makes the S9C heavier than the standard J9.

So this means if the “J 9 Early” In-game is corrected to the “S 9C” It will be correct and i will finally have an excuse for an TT J 9

They likely modelled it of the S 9C in Linköping Swedish Airforce museum.

No, both AP-T and HE-T are actually manufactured by Italy and sold to Sweden.

Sweden purchased a few guns and the license to built them but after Germany invaded and occupied the Netherlands and Belgium, there wasn’t any way to procure ammo for the guns anymore.

When they implemented the ammo for Sweden, Gaijin knew that it’s HE-T but implemented it with 3.5g explosive like the FN Herstal 13.2mm HE bullets.

But HE-T should obviously have less capacity.

Sorry i meant for the FN-Brownings on the D.XXIII, should’ve been clearer

So you’re admitting that Gaijin used the FN Herstal ammunition for the Swedish service variants of the 13.2?

So the Swedish gun ammunition is historically wrong (because Gaijin mixed the M/39 and M/39A designation), and the Dutch one is correct (as it’s pre-war). Fokker used and imported Belgian ammunition for its prototypes. These AP-T and HE rounds, as they are in-game, were manufactured by FN Herstal as far as I’m aware (at least when we focus on their properties).

They should be very clearly be Belgian 13.2 mm FN Herstal guns, also these should be this:

That’s because it was fitted with Belgian FN Herstal supplied 13.2 mm Heavy machine guns, an image of it can be found here (also on the Dutch goverment image bank):

I’d like to add that the weapons seen fitted here are mounted to the MOCKUP of the D.23. The actual functional Prototype under with the Registration number X-4 was completely unarmed.

According to sources, Fokker had carried out static firing tests with the guns suplied by FN Herstal. And after these tests they returned to Belgium. Meaning none of these weapons or ammunition was there when Germany invaded the Netherlands.

Yeah, I should have added that!
