F-5C or F-4S?

I’m thinking of buying a premium aircraft for the USA and am not sure which one to get (I am between the F-4S and the F-5C). Obviously the F-4S is a higher BR so it gets more RP, but I’m still not sure if it’s better. Which airplane better in general (air RB), and which would be better suited for someone who doesn’t have a lot of jet experience?

I can tell you that with the F-4S you’ll get paired with (at least) half a team of brain-dead people trying to get a base, so they’ll be useless. I can’t say much about the F-5C.

for this alone Id go for the F-5C.

it is for the most part a gunfighter at a BR where you rarely have to deal with advanced mechanics like using SARH missiles or defending against SARH or ARH missiles which would be a major part of the F-4S gameplay. So this should allow you to make the most of your existing prop experience.

the main threat in the F-5C is IR weapons and it is an incredibly forgiving aircraft in that regard, with one of the lowest IR signatures in the game. Though will on occasion face SARH missiles in an uptier, but this would be a far more forgiving introduction.

and you can still base bomb with it just fine by running Napalm if you want to double dip your RP gains

F-4S is a great Phantom variant, and probably the easier of the two. The F-5C is an amazing fighter but has a bit of a learning curve. For me, I’d always recommend going with the harder option, hence why Japan was my first tech tree despite having abysmal early Ground tree and relatively slow props. You learn quicker, and the F-5C will always be a vehicle you go back to, I don’t really see many F-4S with a maxed air tree.

^^Morvran has a good point with SARH missiles, though in my experience there isn’t a lot to learn there. Don’t fly too high and don’t fly alone was the advice I learnt.

If you are new, F-5C.

If you already have some experience, F-4S.

Do you feel comfortable dogfighting? If not get the f4s.

For a grind perspective,
If you have zero WT hours. F-4S
If you are experienced. F-4S

The F-4S is currently borderline OP for where it sits in the matchmaking. It won’t take you much time to learn how the systems work by watching tutorials and practising in a custom match against AI.

Make sure to spend some time to get a decent bind setup for everything, make use of shift/left Alt/Ctrl modifiers to make extra binds instead of spreading stuff all over the keyboard.

You can learn proper BFM in other jets in the techtree.

I know people are tired of F-4S noobs, but its the US tree cashcow for a reason.

F-5C is the best option if you dont have experience at high BRs, you wont have to deal with “how does the missile/radar missiles works and what does SRC PDV HDN means?”, i would sugest that if you buy it, wait a little before playing it because lobbys are full of people that have 0 idea of what are they doing.

Also, look up some tutorials of “how to F-5C” so you dont get lost playing it.

F-5C.

Matchmaker is good bcs half of your team isn’t base bombing idiots (not the case for uptier bcs of those fuckin ML and MLA), you are playing jet in prop-ish way so you are adapting to top tier easier, and it’s rather hard to use if you cant manage energy so it makes you mindful of your gameplay.

Just get the F18

I don’t want to spend 80 dollars as opposed to the 30 for the f5

Get the F-5, but I say that because I despise Phantoms.

I’ve been playing for 3ish years now (with lots of ground rb but also taking planes). When you say new, do you mean like just installed the game, or new to US jets?

New to high tier jets, if its your first time at 10.7

New as in new to the 11.0-13.0 bracket. F-4S at times can face extremely powerfull foes in uptier including but not limited to IRCCM and ARH missiles.

At the same time it walks all over most 11.0 planes (as long as you dont try to dogfight them).

If you already have experience with 11.0-13.0 bracket or are you willing to learn how to BVR properly F-4S is obviously better choice.

Yeah it is thanks

Then F-5C, you will enjoy it more since you play it kind of the same way as a prop, go fast and turn almost to everything.
Watch some videos of the plane too to see how it works
