what puzzles me so much is that the f-5c is in all ways the zero of 10.3 but people keep getting mad at it, and the f-5e is the n1k2j for that matter and these two have the most underwhelming kit of their BR as far as armament goes. But people keep turn fighting them at medium high speeds. I found it to be excruciatingly bad on high altitude maps like the rocky pillars, afghanistan and the pyrenees where the air on the deck is thinner making it lose as much speed as any other delta wing that is not a mig21smt with the flare pod. The reason why the f-5’s are good is the same why the n1k2j and the zero would still be good even if you changed their 20mm for four 50 cals. I can count more times that I’ve got a “hit” or a “critical hit” on mig21s and drakens that ended up returning back to repair or fly well enough to kill me more times than I killed people.
The F-5C is actually quite easy to counter as unless you’re a harrier (and yet still you can) you’re going to be at higher energy state than it nearly every time. People just laugh at you if you die to a zero, but they keep get close to it then do a hard 180 giving it their six and dying to the most pitiful 20mm’s in game then embrace the self-biting hake fallacy of “f-5s are OP” when all you have to do is to fly diagonally and return back when they’re busy dogfighting. If I’ve managed to do it in Su-25s then everyone could do it in any afterburning jet able to go mach 1.05 plus on the deck. It is a great dogfighter, yes, sure, but it fulfills the meta because people play it’s games. Even if you’re in a mig21 and alone all you need to do is force diagonal approaches on the f-5c from above to make it bleed speed in the vertical, then go up and just force a downward spiral if you fail to shoot while the top of it’s loop is the bottom of yours.
And even despite how much of a good dogfighter it is, the mig23s can still turn inside you with their wings completely folded back; all deltas turn inside you at most speeds and literally every subsonic can deal with you if you don’t stick to over mach 1. A zero that can’t zero. By the way, everything that is not a phantom can pretty much survive a good barrage of m39 to the core.

In what sense does it overperform? it has the second worst missiles of the BR (the worst ones are on the Aardvark), it has less thrust weight ratio than a MiG17 and the peak is hard to keep, you always have to trade maneuverability for energy retention and vice versa. People talk about the f-5c as if it was something like a release day gripen. Not to mention that any 10.7 can easily outdogfight the f-5c if you know how to not get on a 1000kmh rate fight… speeds at which you can simply not engage and fly away.
If it’s a 1v1 however, yeah it’s hard. But 10.3 and beyond is not about 1v1, it’s about who 's fastest and can kill people quicker without engaging anyone, and for the matter, the mig21s and the drakens are the best at it.

well, so did the MiG23M family and it’s been 4 years since you remained quiet about it 😉or did you point it out like with the f-5e and f-5c and saying the thing of “f-5e ingame outperforms the f20 irl”?
I did point it out 4 years ago. Like with the F-5 series I was told it wasn’t a bug. When new material was found I assisted the person who made the bug report that fixed the MiG-23’s.
Although I don’t see what the MiG-23 has to do with the F-5…?

If we want to go the full way with historical accuracy for the F-5C specifically:
CMs, RWR, and Sidewinder rails should be removed.
During the 1-month evaluation of the 12 F-5As used for Project Skoshi Tiger in 1965, I don’t think any were ever equipped with Sidewinder rails, due to primarily being used the CAS/strike role over South Vietnam. They did however have the wingtip fuel tanks.

Well, whatever ppl say Gaijin needs to consider people have paid for it, and it is rank VII so easier will be to just rename it to other model and all this crying will stop. There were so many variants produced and so many upgrades made this will make you feel better about the issue.
Dunno if F-5C in the current state of Air Realistic is so a huge problem considering F-104s and Mig-19s killing all subsonic with impunity
Or people asking to lower the BR of F-4S with 10 missiles and Aim-7Fs that have 8 of them to lower BR
And many many more that will be too long to mention.
Or just increase the temp of the F5C, making it less immune to IR missiles

You know what the funniest thing is.
F-100D will out-perform F-5C whenever that happens.
F-100D is currently on-par to F-5C in dogfight performance.
Both of which are better than A-5C in dogfighting.

F-5A had sidewinder rails forever.
RWR is manual proven since audible only RWRs are a thing.
And CMs were proven a while ago.
All aircraft need a new damage model. After tanks and then helis next update. I’m hoping they do aircraft.
But yeah, they need to overhaul IR signatures as well

What the fuck are these takes lmao no the F-100 does not equal the F-5C in-game nor is the A-5C worse than the F-100. This take is so goofy I am honestly not sure if this is bait or actual cluelessness .

Out of the three you’ve used the F-5A/C.

You can tell I used the 100D when I was new to fighters and it had a worse engine.
I dogfight in all three.
Well, not the F-5A anymore cause that’s utterly painful at 10.7, easily the worst airframe I’ve used at 10.7.
Mig-19S and F-100D/A are the F-5A/C but at a lower BR because they don’t have 9Es or flares.
[Tho I’ve stalemated F-16s using the Mig-19S.]
