F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

In theory, if the conditions are juuuuust right and the plane has literally nothing on it and is optimized for drag like the streak eagle it’s possible but not sustainable or safe.

Oh definitely not safe or sustainable. And if it’s not confirmed by an external source it could just as easily be inaccuracies in instruments.

Gotta love seeing appearances from the F401 every once in awhile. Oh what could’ve been… (had PW not been a bunch of dorks and actually made both the early F100s and F401 reliable enough, which I’m still kinda pissed about lol)

Imagine the PW-229 on the Tomcat… Whew boy. Easy supercruise, Mach 2.4+, way lighter frame and components, etc…

The F-401 was destined to fail from the start, the initial F-100 engine setup favored the F-15, and the Navy did not want to sponsor the necessary changes to the F-401

probably F-110-GE-429 then

Hes unironically incapable of arguing in good faith. I just think he hate us aircraft. He did the same exact bad faith arguments when arguing on the aim9x. He literally used the statements of an engineer that worked on aim9p-5(worst production us ircm missile unrelated to aim9x) as proof of why the aim9x got flared by su22(it didnt get flared).

AN/AWG-9 (F-14A, F-14A ([IRN]), F-14B): HPRF search, HPRF velocity search, HPRF ACM, HPRF track: -410 / 2050 → -2500 / 2500 m/

HMM

My favourite thing to imagine is a pair of F135’s in a future ST-21. Technically speaking the tomcat seems to have had the space for them had they wanted to put them in (strictly size-wise).

Completely ludicrous as a thought, mostly just a bit of a daydream, but itd be funny seeing an F-14/ST-21 with more dry thrust than the F-14D had on full reheat xD

Are F-14s intakes big enough to provide F135 enough airflow?

No idea

Is this good or bad?

I want them to put the GE-132 in F-15E and EX lol. This one should be more feasible afaik

From what i heard, it should make it easier to lock on from all aspects (don’t quote me on this)

It is slightly longer.

I think it just makes it easier to lock enemy missiles, which can be good or bad depending on the situation.

It was in the change logs.

Limits for maximum radial speed have been increased for the search and track modes of the aircraft radars. This change allows the locking on of high-velocity targets, such as air-to-air missiles.
