F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

It is quite funny nobody talking about interesting docs of AWG-9 is recently unclassified and scanned.

Interestingly, as the bulk of this book is based on NAVAIR -1A manual, although it is not exhaustive, it has now made it possible to fill in most of the gaps in the account that had previously been missing.

How good would ECM be of F-14D/B?

Manual HMD would be tricky but a very welcomed fix,

They immediately accepted the no PD ACM nerf, we’ll see if they accept the barely-a-buff MRL…

When all the jets got steering queue for launch the F-14 should have gotten it as well but I remember they said something along the lines of “not planned for the F-14”. So hoping now is the time, along with the HUD symbology fixes which they seem to struggle with on every jet
Let’s not forget they promised F-14D’s proper HUD at some point too. Can’t let them forget that haha

I don’t think no PD ACM is nerf because it still has P-STT and PD-STT, irl AWG-9 could switch automatically.

True, it’s not a nerf outright, but there will definitely be instances of locking chaff instead of the jet. Then you’ll have to unlock and try to lock again which at the distances you use ACM you rarely have time to spare.
So it’ll be a circumstantial nerf

LANTIRN symbol is ways different from irl one…

because they copy pasted it from the F-16

It looks different from F-14s. Maybe F-16AM that also has LANTIRN?

At the least, since there are plenty of scenes showing the full LANTIRN symbology in Fighter Fling and cruise videos, it shouldn’t be too hard to submit a bug report.

If they add more paper vehicles, I think so, and as a promotional vehicle for the anniversary of the F-14’s first flight it could be interesting, we’ll see what happens

They also have yet to fix the TV/IRST view in the MFD. Even when changing view it doesn’t have Thermal without the Pod installed

There’s multiple reports out there but here’s one:

That also happens to the F-14B; since the F-14D arrived, it stopped working, and I don’t understand why

It could be interesting, although the F-14A we already have fulfills that requirement, I would still like it to be or for us to have the Late F-14A, even if it was just for a squadron

Keyword is 1974.

F-14A had IRST at that time.

Yes, indeed, we should do a post about everything the F-14 is lacking, the problems it has, and what should be added or corrected; it could be applied to other aircraft as well

Thing is it could have both and you pick what sensor you want…
The fleet changed the IRST to TV and stopped using it because the IRST was very bad in things that we don’t have in WT like maintenance and not “according to specs” performance.
It doesn’t mean that suddenly it lost the capability of it.
But ofc GJ has an obsession in fking up the Tomcat as if they have something personal with it…

According to my research, until at least 1975, the IR seeker was in service across F-14 units, with the exception of the Atlantic Fleet units (VF-14 and VF-32). Among the other active squadrons at the time, specifically VF-1, VF-2, VF-124, and VX-4, it was fitted and operated in the vast majority of cases.

Also, records show that even after 1975, when the first F-14A (IR) was produced, it was equipped with an IR seeker and conducted test flights.
