F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

Still half that of the Raptor. And all those TRM are working togetehr

i mean we’re comparing the raptor to the damn tomcat. a tad unfair aint it lol

a better comparison would be to that super tomcat. i forgot if theres even mockups of that thing tho

Ah yes let’s compare a radar from the late 60s/ early 70s to one from the 90s

And afterwards call the older radar bad

It’s not a bad radar for its time by any means, it’s just that I’ve heard some people say it has equal/better range than APG-77 (for the APG-71)

The output power of a radar isn’t the only factor determining the radars range

Frequency and antenna size are way more important

It was the best radar of its time

And 370km is indeed more than the claimed range of 250km I could find for the f22

Both are X band, and what I could find has 3ft diameter for both.

Where did you get 250km, I’ve seen 250 miles, but not km

The F-22’s radar is 20 kW peak power, whereas the F-14’s radar is 5 kW average power.

Average power is generally more relevant than peak power when discussing performance (as I’ve said before the Lancaster’s H2S radar has a peak power of 50 kW, but no one is seriously going to argue it is more powerful than the F-14 / F-22’s radar). As far as I know, the average power output of the APG-77 has never been disclosed, however, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is in fact lower than the average power output of the AWG-9.

or mig25p 600kw

F-14 peak output is 10kW

Late 1950s radar vs mid 1990s radar

Air Force better

Seems like some good buffs.

Here’s the full stuff:
F-14B:
built-in sight: zoom: 4x / 10x → 12.55x / 44.64x,
AN/AAQ-25: thermal: 500 x 300 → 800 x 600,

Aircraft weapon changes:

F-14A: custom loadout changes:
slots 2, 7 changed: option changed: 1x AIM-54A (stock) → 1x AIM-54A:
added modification requirement: AIM-54A,
no longer available stock,

slot 5 changed: option changed: 2x AIM-54A → 2x AIM-54A (stock):
removed modification requirement: AIM-54A,
now available stock,

F-14A ([IRN]):
loadout changes: 2x AIM-9P (stock) → 2x AIM-54A + 2x AIM-9P (stock),
removed loadout(s): 2x AIM-54A (stock),
custom loadout changes:
slot 3 changed:
option changed: 1x AIM-7E-2 (DF): it can now be equipped together with: 1x AIM-54A on slot 5,
option changed: 2x AIM-7E-2 (DF): it can now be equipped together with: 1x AIM-54A on slot 5,
removed 1x AIM-54A (stock) option: couldn’t be equipped together with: 1x 250 lb GP Mk. 81 on slot 5, 1x 500 lb GP Mk. 82 on slot 5, 1x 2000 lb GP Mk. 84 on slot 5, 1x AIM-7E-2 (DF) on slot 5,

slot 4 changed:
option changed: 2x AIM-54A → 2x AIM-54A (stock):
removed modification requirement: AIM-54A,
now available stock,

removed 1x AIM-54A (stock) option,

F-14B: custom loadout changes:
slots 2, 7 changed: option changed: 1x AIM-54C (stock) → 1x AIM-54C:
added modification requirement: AIM-54C,
no longer available stock,

slot 5 changed: option changed: 2x AIM-54C → 2x AIM-54C (stock):
removed modification requirement: AIM-54C,
now available stock

Seems like they changed the Aim-54 positions so that you can use them effectively during stockgrind.

Still waiting on unnotchable AIM-7s while using the TCS…imagine if SU-27 was added with R-27ET but without IRST…

I think the f-14 struggles because of the small maps. the radar has a tws range of 370 km, but the maps are all to small for it to not immediately lock onto something. bigger maps would make long range missles like the aim 54 mor viable, as well as possibly expanding capabilities for the game to handle aircraft like the f22

It literally does… What are you trying to ragebait about now.

Did you test on a map that is bigger than 128x128?
