F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

You’re like a pro in the Sim Tomcat! It’s always nice to see you upload.

Yeah, I thought this would be the case, but even with instant max elevator deflection, the Tomcat actually pulled less in Sim, only getting to around 11G even on 1 minute of fuel. Not sure if that was a bug regarding sim, but since the results were poorer than instructor, I decided to submit the instructor clips to give the benefit of the doubt.

Could you DM me that? I only have 1995 and 2004.

They used HUD footage for the Rafale buff.

becasue the french community basically gaslighted the bug reporting managers into thinking it was a secondary source so that they forward it to the devs

they normally dont accept hud footage

they were until somebody ruined it by using a sped up video once

This isn’t about bleedrates or SEP like that one is though. You can see the peak G clearly on the HUD. 9.2G. Nothing with slowing or speeding up the video could manipulate that. Not to mention there are voices with the audio, any attempt to speed it up would have it either sounding weird or out of sync.

unnotchable sparrow would be hilarious.
unfortunate you can simply out roll them

If only you could DL AMRAAM all the way

aim-120d shall fix that
not excited for how abysmal it is going to be off bore though considering how 120c5 is implemented…

I wonder if 120C-8 is D with downgraded range or D with downgraded electronics. If it’s the first it could be the stopgap so they don’t jump to 120D which would be pretty broken

For anyone interested in the ST-21 or Future Tomcat variants, here’s a great article going over basically everything in one place: Super Tomcat 21: The Navy's Plan for an F-14 Tomcat on Steroids - 19FortyFive

I think it just might a d with c-7 electronics

Copied from discord about the F-14’s high speed pass stats:

The F-14B/D in airshows have notedly gone Mach 1 (still accelerating) during their high speed pass, from analyzing their cockpit footage and external video, I can see no use of Afterburner here. And the kicker is that most of these high speed passes are in a 1.5-2.5G turn above the audience, not even level flight. This is more than enough evidence that the F-14B’s Mil Thrust is significantly underperforming. I plan to report this and the engine’s thrust curve sometime soon to get this corrected. Even for the supersonic high speed passes on YouTube, I cannot see use of afterburner. This would make sense since the airshow jets are clean. Unfortunately, there are no graphs for mil thrust maximum speed anywhere and certainly not a clean jet. Nevertheless, I will get this fixed hopefully, as any documentation of this is allowed to be used anyway.

Also, there is proof that the F-14B can easily go Mach 1.2+ on the deck, as per the performance charts, it can go Mach 1.21 with 4x Aim-7 and 4x Aim-9 at 5k ft. This is the closest stat we will get for the F-14s down low performance. However, like everything else in WT, this should be modeled off a clean jet profile, not a loaded one. So they’ll have to figure that one out once we can use those sources.

F-14 Tomcat - Incorrect active conditions for AIM-54/Fakour-90

Wait Aim54s are not ARHMs?

No it’s simply changing the arh missile from tracking from 16km to tti of 16 seconds

Now I need to do maths to work out what kind of distance that is from target at normal launch conditions…

It depends how you launched 54s.

If you launched with P-STT/PD-STT, phoenix will be SARH mode and never go active.

Is that modeled in game?

It doesn’t afaik
