is it? the linked page above says the type 2 was not as powerful as the type 5, but couldn’t tell why

The Type 2 30mm cannon was an enlarged Type 99 20mm cannon. However, the Type 5 30mm cannon was a new design. The Type 5 weighed more (20 kg), so it could also use more powerful and faster bullets.

Do you have more information for the 30mm Type 2? I want to write a report for J2M5 to show that there is difference between type 5 and 2, maybe can add some ammunition for J2M5 because they have different guns

The Type 2 and Type 5 had the same number of bullet. Most of my information is in the sources, but I can ask a few people and send you some documentation.

Someone has mentioned that the number of bullet is taken from 30mm Type 2, which was fitted with drums. Does J2M5 have the same drums? because considering other planes like J8N1 or J7W1, they all have more bullets

Type 2 and Type 5 had different types of ammo using
Type 2 - drums with 42 rounds only
Type 5 - belts with any ammo what you need, only need to take enough belt
So it can have same ammo but for what? It looks a little bit no logical when you can load like 40 or 50 rounds, not 42

It is useless without any source of exact number of bullets.
42 rounds is not impossible number because in belt you can use any number so only your proof will be fact that on another planes it has different number of ammo but it won’t be enough proof for wrong number of ammo for J2M5 (and I will be agree with it, because number of ammo only on assumptions is not correct as I think)
So I would recommend you not doing report what will be anyway closed as not a bug

Huge zero fan here, +1, always great for another variant to be added.
This could could also be added as a modification to existing A6M3 in the game unless there were any other modifications done.
If we can find a similar aircraft to carry and disprove the current conclusions, I think it’s acceptable, because presumably, from the number of bullets in the A7M3-J, the J2M5 should have the same number of them( 60 rounds)
