Does the TARAN-18 have an ACM mode IRL?
Played the IIIS the first time yesterday, two matches in Sim. Quite painful atm with the spotting issue - I made a FALCO kill on a target I never even saw…
Wondering even more after those missions why I have to fight against and along fighters with AIM-9P’s…

Be careful what you ask for.
AIM-9P likely means 10.7.
If it is P5 I would be fine with a high Br but if it is just a AIM-9P or P4 I rather keep the 9E and have it stay 10.3.
In SIM AIM-9P go down to 9.7 on the T-1 wit two missiles, and the F-1 is at 10.0 and carries 4x of those missiles.
The J35XS and F-104J at 10.3 carry 6x AIM-9P’s at the same BR.
So, no, I don’t see why ethe MIRO with AIM-9P should go higher - except of course if they’re the all aspect variants…
guns + SEPR really make it have best mirage 3 flight model at least. SEPR to fix acceleration not being on 3C level. And turn wise you are around 3C level with bit tighter turn but worse retention at low speed and better at very high speeds. SEPR + guns is pretty nice and if you run out you are bit lower max speed 3E with quite bit better turn
theres mirage with 2xaim9P at 10.3 but tbh 5Ba is pretty shit so I can see 3S stay IF 5Ba goes down. that br range compression is just tough, and 10.3-10.7 f-104s really fell off especially china one got trashed by gaijin.
But that is T-2 / F-1.
Mirage flies better and the ones we are talking about have countermeasures.
I am not saying Mirage IIIS C.70 should go higher with AIM-9P but that is what would most likely happen.
Mirage III/5 variants in general are not ideally placed.
Mirage IIIS C.70 in it’s current state compared to IIIE is quite the upgrade. It is the best Mirage III/5 variant we have so far.
Just because it has Magic I Mirage IIIE is forced to go toe to toe with MLA/MLD which come equipped with R-24R and a MTI radar while there is no reason for it to be any higher than MiG-21 MF/SMT.
5F is only sitting at 10.0 because just like Mirage IIIC it doesn’t have countermeasures.

Ironically IIIC and IIICJ sit at the same BR.
Likely because a 9.7 Mirage with AIM-9J would be a bit much.
Personally I would prefer both of these to have AIM-9B at 9.7.
Even the reasonably placed 5BA is ending up as a gun fighter most of the time and has various short comings when compared to IIIS C.70.
Well, I find the Magic I is a vastly more capable missile than the AIM-9E and even the 9P
But therein lies the problem.
Your “meta” doesn’t change wether you have Magic 1 or AIM-9P but the aircraft you face are superior.
Especially when the enemy comes equipped with countermeasures it doesn’t matter as much wether it is a AIM-9P or a Magic 1.
If it is a poor SU-7 or F-104A which the IIIE at 10.7 wont even face anymore it usually also doesn’t matter wether you kill it with a AIM-9P or Magic 1.
Magic allows for more carefree use that’s all.
But what do you think will happen if you put AIM-9P instead of AIM-9E on the best Mirage III/5 variant we have in game so far?
That plane should really not be 10.3 in sim, its the same BR as the J35D which is mildly better in a dogfight than the XS
It should also be rocking the same beautiful falcon missiles which at that point its almost better than the Mirage IIIS in every way bar like one or two things such as countermeasures
At the moment the Mirage IIIS has a few problems

Its is clear that the TARAN did have a ballistic computer for AA and AG modes in the HUD. Not implemented
I don’t know how many times we need to post a foto of a Mirage IIIS carrying AIM-9P. GJ refuses to implement anything above AIM-9E.
- A-10 is featuring AIM-9L (BR10.3)
- J35D/XS has RB24j, which is a AIM-9P3 (BR10.3)

Not to forget that Tiger F-5 is having AIM-9P5 IRL while in game the best you get is AIM-9J while your opponents already shoot AIM-9M at at BR11.3.
Nose wheel still is way too much up which makes the nose to be too high.

Btw, anyone know why the 9P-3 in WT has no all-aspect capability as in real life?
P4 was the first aim9p fitted with ALASCA and 9l/9m tech

Watch the video and then compare it how it works in game. If your radar of the Mirage IIIS gets the circle and the aiming, same as the X when the FALCO is launched, then you are seeing somethings else than me. But from what I see the the TARAN display is different in game.

Looks similar to the swedish system tho but “aiming” the missile isnt a thing in game, its just automatic slave to radar or HMD or it looks straight ahead. Manual slaving or even the seeker moving to the slaving point isnt a thing in game
A good thing then that our pilots didn’t know that when they fired the 9P-3 in all-aspect situations (TCA 150°, see below) in Sweden in 1981, specifically also to verify the all-aspect capabilities of that missile… ;-)

this is called “limited all aspect capability”
this ability irl is not that uncommon, IIRC missiles like magic 1, 9J, etc had “limited all aspect capability” irl
the thing about these is, that you need specific conditions to make those type of locks.
ill be honest, if someone would suggest on this forum to add “limited all aspect capabilities” to missiles, i would vote “no”. We have planes with P3 on low br like t2 on 9.7, adding limited all aspect would make those jets even harder to balance.
The smoke reduced motor of the P-3 would be nice though.
But that won’t be happening for balance reasons
Is the Rudder this weak on all mirages or just the III S ? Whenever im at low-ish speeds and try to get a shot off it just sways side to side.
I keep missing VERY easy kills because the rudder is all over the place instead of where i want it to be , also the engine is rather anemic. (no mods yet)
