So, is this still an issue?

yep
still an issue btw

“iT’s nOt aRmOur” - Captain Not-My-Problem

Its funny how everyone elses tanks have cupola’s that allow them to be one shot with APHE rounds yet some Russian stuff with cupola’s don’t suffer with this issue.
We as a community need to hold the dev team and forum team to account for failings like this.
to be fair it should be like this on all tanks cause IRL you aint killing a tank with APHE by hitting kupola
IRL you aint killing a tank with APHE by hitting kupola
M3 Stuart knocked out by a cupola shot in Tunisia, 1943.
Cupolas are known to be a tank weakspot IRL; Early WW2 German tanks had their commander cupolas changed to be more flattened and shorter in height later on.
Ex: Tiger H1 → Tiger E.

Even the Israelis swapped out the cupolas on the American M48 Patton for their Magach 3.
The only unrealistic aspect of cupola shots in War Thunder currently is the spherical-shaped post-penetration effect of APHE shells in general (which got voted off rather than for a more realistic triangular spray effect).
That would be “Nadboi” radiation shielding to protect the crew from neutron radiation, its basically woven polyethylene panels covering the turret roof, including the hatches and periscopes. I assume they are saying that the armour of the hatch is more flush with the turret roof and the “dome” is made up of the periscopes and nadboi.

its still incredibly idiotic on gaijins part
like, its still a part of a tank? a pretty big one at that, why the hell is it not a part of the damage model!?
you can obviously hit the kupola and kill the crew but this is VERY RARE like super rare but it doesnt knock out the entire crew especially in large tanks and it defienelty doesnt kill the transmission
I was more explaining what the Bug report guy meant by “anti-radiation protection” then defending the decision, at the very least the hatch is misshaped in game, you can clearly see it is curved and raised some what:
As for the Nadboi not fusing HE/HEAT I would have to assume that is inaccurate as from what I can find it is the same material as Podboi, which also functioned as an rather effective spall liner, so it obviously had some strength to it.
i understand that, still incredibly dumb that the PHYSICAL PART OF A TANK is literally nonexistant in the damage model
pretty sure we’d get that in an update or two, devs mentioned they were working on something like that
For some reason, you can’t really kill a Tiger E through the Cupola in a live match, but you can kill a Jumbo or other Sherman 76 through their smaller cupola.
There are 2 year old bug reports on it, if they do, hopefully they do a full damage model update on all the tanks, it would be OP AF if implemented correctly, it would be a 66% reduction in the spall cone and 90% reduction in fragment generation (assuming the info I have found on it is correct) to all Russian MBTs from the T-55 on. It will need either a reduction in effectiveness or to be offset in a different manner.
like I said, very effective spall liner IRL.
this would translate into an absolute megabunker in game xD
