Eurofighter vs Rafale battlefield

@quartas121 surely the 22 is capable of going beyond 90 AOA right

its not even really AoA limited afaik. apparently did 110 in tests

F-22 is better at maneuvering, but up until recently it didnt have an HMD, and had 90’s hardware for basically all its stuff cuz LM made it super hard to upgrade. Typhoon pilots have stated F-22’s would typically win gunfights while Typhoon would win dogfights with missiles.

That being said, F-22 is obviously a very hard kill for any jets, as can be seen by the fact it typically gets its own unique kill mark when someone does “shoot” one down (in exercises)

German Typhoon with 3 F-22 kill marks (and a ton of other non-specific ones):

A-10 with F-22 kill mark:

Rafale winning guns only fight vs F-22:

etc…

Anyone saying or alluding to either jet winning all fights is being ridiculous. Neither the EFT or F-22 are invincible, nor is any jet for that matter.

It doesnt unless its carrying external stores. Its 6x AMRAAM + 2x sidewinders, same as EFT.

And an HMD, since the F-22 is still only testing HMD atm iirc

not really they did the APG-77v1 in the mid/late 2000’s. most HMD issues are from the canopy and cockpit design for stealth iirc

doesn’t really matter considering it’s definitely gonna get it in game

I mean, APG-77 was better than CAPTOR-M anyways, so kind of a moot point, but sure.

in wt i don’t see why anyone wouldn’t, extra 4 missiles

Probably will get the Rafale treatment yeah, though itd be a heck of a lot less dumb on gaijins part to add it without HMD at first, and keep that in their back pocket as a buff if need be. Seeing how they handle the Rafalae situation though, I dont have high hopes for their balancing decisions with the F-22 either…

im just saying, they were able to and did upgrade the raptors hardware

And the rafale did 140 degrees, -40kt in test flight according to a report. I don’t think that’s the best indicator of flight performances. To this day a competent EFT will win against an equally competent Rafale with the Rafale having quite significantly better AOA authority compared to the EFT in game.

While the F22 has much more powerful engines, it’s also significantly heavier than the euro canard. I do also think that the TVC and the canard maneuvrability method do compensate each other to some degrees. If you were to ask me today who would win between a f22 and an EFT or Rafale in close range engagements, I’m not sure I could give a definite answer. The F22 is probably still better overall in air dominance if you don’t consider its currently aging tech, but if it gets updated soon (radar, IRST, HMD…), then it’ll likely take it’s spot back

Testbeds in 2023.

but service Captor E for Luftwaffe and UK are available since 2025 summer.

@DirectSupport

You forgot the 8th AIM-120 )))

Look, 110 is just the estimate given by a test pilot who saw one flying backwards. It can probably go way higher.

I can’t find anything on the 140 degree figure for Rafale either

Ima be real with you here, the F-22 weighs about as much as a fully fuelled flanker while empty.
I do not have high expectations for dogfight performance, particularly against a eurocanard.

TTW isn’t that far off though. It’s got TVC for low speed too.

Empty TTW on the F-22 is 1.61, with public weight and thrust figures

okay but what’s the wing loading like?

If they are C5’s they might as well stay as 6

78 m^2. With public 43,340lb weight, it’s about 252kg m^2. But this does not account for any body lift, which is a little biased to the Delta canards.

The eurocanards are also worthless when clean, while with the F-22’s typical loadout, it will be aerodynamically clean

Upon further research I retract my statement it’s quite responsive.

I do expect it to do a flanker and kinda just fall out of the sky though, even with a high TWR your speed on a 78m^2 wing is gone.
