Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

Yeah… I too have my doubts, but there is still a bit of hopium left in the tanks

In my mind, best case scenario atm, VL MICA, CAMM, and Spyder AIO have roughly the vehicle lock range of the Kh-38MT, and have enough interceptors ready (8) to shoot down all 6 Kh-38MT/AASM IR.

Problem is, the Kh-38MT can still be fired from beyond their range. It degrades its capability vs moving targets, but these SAM’s need to be stationary to fire, so it doesn’t actually matter.

At best, I think the SAM’s will punish ppl that dont respect their range, helicopters, and jets with ordinance below their max range (ie: everyone except the Russians and French). When faced with a Kh-38MT launch though, they’d either need to use 75% of their interceptors to stop a single planes salvo, or they’d need to get moving and hope they leave the Kh-38MT’s search cone before it locks them. And in the even they pack up and move while the missile was launched at a teammate, they’ve basically rendered themselves irrelevant.

I have also checked and the Kh-38MT’s seeker is more than capable of finding targets at 30km+, and the missile can easily hit a target when fired from below the contrail floor, so its actually possible the new SAM systems make the problem worse.

Spoiler

Yeah, still not a great situation, but Id still take Skysabre over ADATS for fighting Su-30s

Its got the exact same seeker from Brimstone DMS/2/3, you can see visually, they are identical;

SPEAR-3

Brimstone DMS

We aint doing IIR through the tiny aperture of the laser seeker haha. You don’t need IIR with mmW @ 94Ghz because its already in the “near visual” band, and can produce imagery.

So, it something like SAR? Or it is different?

Yeah it does SAR for its ATR.

Okay, thank you.

I’ve seen Brimstone’s “look” at an IFV, tank or something like that somewhere before.

Now I’m more interested in why the JAGM-MR and GBU-53 use IIR.

There will be situations where the target RCS isn’t enough and they wanted a fall back to a less complex tracking method that is still self guiding.

Bug report has been made

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/IjjHNJbGZ4P3

Honestly I don’t have much faith in it, as the weapon got displayed, however all other shown weapons were/are mounted on Eurofighters, so possibly this too (unless someone pulls up with an image of a PGM being mounted on a EFT)

Edit: That was quick

New Update, added an new report under Suggestion

inb4 devs respond with;

“Aircraft only seen with mockup nearby and never mounted, PGM500 will not be added”

desperately pretending not to notice the Kh-38MT situation while sweating profusely

And the dual R-77 pylons

@Gunjob I wonder, is it still on the devs To-Do list that the Radar of the EF is beyond unreliable?

Also,

Can we exspect more Bug fixes on it with 2.47? :)

I think it’s reasonable to have to switch to 3 diferent Radar modes to lock the thing right infornt of you…

I’m not aware of anything in that regard. Just keeping an eye on my ECRS suggestion and coping. :)
