Didnt blow up the launch aircraft, so you’re already expecting more than I am lol
Haha, yeah, now that would be funny. Or a teammate because of LOAL :D
IRIS-T and ASRAAM and probably AIM-9X should have an advantage in not murdering teammates as commonly if/when LOAL is implemented on IIR missiles as all are capable of 90deg pre-launch gimbal limits, allowing you much more real estate in LOBL capabilities compared to MICA IR and R-73/74. Not too sure about the Chinese/Japanese missiles, but I assume they also have a seeker with actual competitive seeker gimbal limits as well.
I’m just expecting a mix of gaijins spotty TVC implementation and abject hatred for germany to shine through and make the IRIS-T borderline unusable. Would not be surprised if they pulled something like with the F-4F early and made ONLY the german IRIS-T basically unusable as well (for those who aren’t aware, for a few months(iirc) after the F-4F early was added, it had a pre-launch G-overload of 4G for its 9J’s, which made it nearly impossible to use them without flying in a near perfectly straight line, and made it effectively impossible to lead targets with them as well.)
hopefully*
I hope, it will perform like the AA.20 with Auto-aim (In case you are aware of which I mean)
does it have mavericks on the middle pylons?
So the germans are the only ones that dont have any way to claim to both missiles(even tho by all technicality, they are interchangeably useable)? Interesting…
Sidenote, just looked over the PL-10A for compairison and it seems it has roughly MICA proportions and layout with a ±90deg seeker, so it might just end up being a straight up better MICA in-game.
As it currently stands, I expect the IIR missiles to be, in order of effectivness in WT:
- ASRAAM (fastest, likely best range, fully aerodynamic control prevents TVC tomfoolery)
- PL-10 (MICA performance with better gimbal limits?)
- MICA (slightly less range/speed than ASRAAM, better close in performance, worst in class seeker gimbal)
- IRIS-T (best in class close in performance and ability to semi autonomously protect the aircraft in a quasi-hardkill APS, range is subpar though)(if it works and has limited/no TVC issues, which I highly doubt)
- AIM-9X (IRIS-T with worse flight performance but maybe better seeker?)
- IRIS-T (if it has significant TVC issues and/or doesn’t have quasi-hard kill APS capability)
As for the missiles I cant really comment on;
- Python 5 (Very good speed and range, likely the best seeker, but from my understanding it relies a lot on LOAL and target re-acquisition through second attempt intercept maneuvers which might make it finnicky in-game? Don’t really know/care enough about that nation or its tech so idk too much about it)
- AAM-5 (seems to be effectively a slight iteration on the IRIS-T, with a slightly bigger motor and probably a better seeker, but dont really have much info on it or heard much about it to comment)
- R-74M2 (Russias first 5th Gen IIR missile. Im not 100% clear on the info about it, but if I was to place it considering what ive read in news articles, I’d likely put it 3-4th place, with a better seeker than the MICA and likely slightly inferior range?)
Looks more like HARM/ALARM
Its an ALARM
if they model the IRIS-T correctly it should be able to lock onto IR lasers like on the Su-25T or some of the helicopters
That probably shouldn’t be the case. L3 describe it as a “common weapon launcher” for 500lb class munitions with 14-inch lug spacing. So that should cover other GBUs as well.
PWIV’s interfaces (14-in bale lugs and mil-std-1760 umbilical connector) aren’t any different to others. It just has a hardback design
@Flame2512 mentionned in the past that DIRCM doesnt actually work too well vs focal plane seekers either iirc, not that theres much of anything in-game that actually uses DIRCM to a point that HOJ would be required anyways afaik. The Ka-52 is the only relevant threat that has it but its below the heli, and they’re food for ASM’s anyways. It might help in the upcoming SAMs capability to combat Ka-52’s though I guess.
I think the issue with that though is that, despite the fact NATO has worked VERY hard with standardization, and should theoretically be able to interchange most/all munitions with little actual effort to do so, gaijin is extremely anal about explicit picture proof that something can/has been done (except if its the Kh-38MT, in which case they read on some paper that it was a thing and took it at face value). Technically speaking, most munitions across the NATO nations should be interchangeable. Technically speaking almost all EFT stations should theoretically be cleared to carry AMRAAMs, but unless explicitly proven, gaijin will never let any of those things that happen. (As @Morvran stated, its also not fun when everyone has all the same stuff. Mixed battles and subtrees diluting national flavours has been some of the worst things to have happened to this game)
It wouldn’t surprise me if it is compatible with other stuff, but in all the promo images it is always Paveway IV. And getting Gaijin to go with technical possibility is quite the challenge (see the amount of effort it took to get Paveways on the Tornado wing pylons)
BAe ALARM missiles
This is why I am a project moon fan )))
What nations can get Eurofighter with an AESA radar rn? Seems to me none of the nations in game currently have an AESA eurofighter in service
(Spain flies new E-Scan radar for Eurofighter)
Germany plans to retrofitted thier T2s and T3s with ECRS Mk 1
Uk and Italy too but not sure
Kuwait and Qatar have operated the Mk0 now for 2 ish years
Germany and Spain were happy with the Mk1, so they’ve already made fairly decent progress in deploying the CAPTOR-E. Not sure if they have any operational yet, but they’ve got some radars I think. I think they also have a few Mk0s
Britain wanted to wait for the more capable Mk2 and as a result have only just started deployment. But Mk2 has been flown in an RAF Typhoon which is more than enough for Gaijin and its eventual addition to the game (Source)
Im not sure what the plan is for Italy. I think they are going for the Mk2 as well, but I think they still have a little more politics to go yet
I believe gunjob has an internal suggestion for Germany to get the Mk1 and Britain and Italy to get the Mk2
