Eurofighter Typhoon (UK versions) - Technical data and discussion

In a gamemode like ARB, where you have markers for finding targets, and then the narrow TWS or HMD or ACM for locking onto the target. its “fine”

But in gamemodes like ASB and even to an extent GRB/GSB. It is dreadful to use because you are far more heavily dependent on the medium TWS search mode to find a target. I’ve had many instances where i’ve physically had my nose pointing a target I could see, and not even a difficult target to see, something flying at medium altitude, clear sky in front and behind and nothing. medium TWS could not find the target, not even slightly. It wasnt until I switched to a narrow search mode that it did actually find the target.

Given the fact i’ve never had such issues with the Blue Vixen (Gripen / FA2) or the Foxhunter (F3), heck i’ve never had this kind of issue with the radars in the Buc, Sea Vixen, Javelin or FRS1, something is definetly wrong with the CAPTOR-M radar.

SU-30 can pull as much as Eurofighter in most situations.

No matter the g load SU-30 and especially Rafale have a far superior instantaneous turn rate and achieve a higher angle of attack at higher speeds currently.
If necessary SU-30 can bleed speed more rapidly than Eurofighter can do easily.

This makes notching simpler for SU-30 and Rafale.

Combined with their advantages in off bore sight Fox 3 and or Fox 2 launches as well as missile count they usually dominate Eurofighter.

Rafale and SU-30 can pressure more easily since their missiles are superior and more numerous.
They can defend more easily since they enter a notch more swiftly and they can quickly switch into the offensive with their off boresight launches while they are able to re enter a clean notch more swiftly than Eurofighter would be able to.

It all depends on the relative speeds and distances of course but in general Eurofighter is inferior in about every aspect currently.

Any aircraft can get clapped from surprising angles of course. But talking about somewhat even odds what I desribed holds up.

In Rafale I once notched 8 missiles from a spinning SU-30 which was hit by a MICA peeviously on less than 5 kilometres before he got me.
I could not secure the kill and safe myself in doing so because I was forced in the defensive on a range that would not allow for any re commitment to the offensive. As I continued trying to sustain the notch against the oncoming missile barrage I either got to slow or the angle changed to much.

Eurofighter would simply have died with it’s inferior missiles of which it has perhaps half the amount compared to SU-30.

On Rafale it’s only a matter of managing your MICAS you still have two more than Eurofighter to pressure single targets in the early match while later on if you play it right and don’t suffer from bad luck you are likely in a position in which each single MICA nets a more or less guaranteed kill.

What can I say I am simply much more efficient in SU-30 and Rafale.

I do better in J-11A currently than I do in Eurofighter…

Su-30 as others have said has a superior ITR and you can test that in test flight. The Su-33 pulls harder than a Typhoon.

AMRAAM is no longer the top dog, when it comes to missiles. Yes they do work long range providing no one tries to defend, but as you close the distance the limited G the 120s can pull hurts them

R-77-1 has surpassed it, it can do crazy things
MICA was always sueperior in medium to short range.
PL-12 is also suprisingly very capable.

Typhoon hasnt got a short range HOB missile.
Which makes defending and recomitting dangerous.
combined with a pretty terrible Radar and the joint/ lowest ARHM payload it is very much falling behind

New versions of F-15 will be added with AESA and improved engines I see Typhoon dropping off further. We shouldnt have to wait for an Tranche 4 Typhoon with AESA to be competitive

13.0 SU 27 can clap Eurofighter under decent circumstances headon and in close range at the moment.

If a AIM-120 is not positioned and launched perfectly the combination of ER/ET and R-73 in close range is going to overwhelm Eurofighter in most situations.

If you are forced on the defensive a clever AIM-9M launch while you are defending might be the greatest issue.
If you go cold cleanly a AIM-120 could put you down hard of course though you can do the same with ER or ET.

ET is still one of the best missiles to have.

This is imo, one of the most significant factors. Whilst strictly speaking the Typhoon will probably win in a WVR fight if everyone had equal missiles. the fact the 9M are the weakest dogfighting missile at top tier currently is quite a major nerf. Rafale and Su-30 can quite happily outdogfight a Typhoon simply because they dont need a clear easy rear aspect shot against the target to the get

At this point Rafale wont carry any Magics while SU-27SM, J-11A and SU-30 will launch a R-77 from behind if the R-73 did not connect or doesn’t seem likely to.

Even Rafale will die to a SU-27 or SU-30 if it doesn’t stay out of the WEZ of R-77 or doesn’t do the same combined with pre flaring against the R-73.

Even though Rafale would win the guns only every time on paper.
AIM-9M/9Li just like R-27ET should not be underestimated. They have their uses.

Only Magic 2 is so overshadowed by MICA that using it since it goes on the wing tip pylons too usually is the better option.

You have constant fear of gaining too much separation to allow an R-73/PL8/R-77-1 or MICA shot as your chances of defending it become harder as you slow down

ET is just a gem generally speaking but it just like AIM-9Li can be mistaken for FOX 3 launches netting easy kills.

In the right situation AIM-9M is still top notch even if it is worse than R-73 or Magic 2 over all.

On F-15E I would not bother with AIM-9M I think.

On Eurofighter sadly there is no choice. I have had matches without a single AIM-120 kill in which I got kills with AIM-9M.

Definetly situational. Apart from the incorrect lock ranges. I dont have any inherrent issues with the 9Ms at this time. But my god, would love to have a HOBS SRAAM.

I wonder wether we are going to see AIM-120C for selected aircraft in the near future.

It probably is still to early for AIM-9X Block II, ASRAAM, MICA-IR, Python 5 or IRIS-T.

Perhaps we will receiver Python 4 first and then AIM-9X.

Whatever happens Eurofighter needs to be fixed.
At the moment it is roughly as efficient as BF-110 was during the battle of Britain.

Its possible. I definetly see Aim-120C5s coming for something like the F3 Late within this year. But It really depends on what they want to do for other nations I think. But I definetly see Aim-120C5s coming for the Typhoon before we get ASRAAMs

Definetly agreed. Its not about making it OP, or giving it ahistorical capabilties for the Typhoon currently being represented (like the Rafale got) its about making it representive of even the Typhoon DAs, which it barely is currently.

I honestly do not begrudge Rafale it’s capabilities. Even some strictly speaking ahistorical ones are acceptable seeing how Gaijin adds questionable aircraft or aircraft configurations at times but even if it doesn’t have the best missiles at the moment Eurofighter only looks the part. It flies like a brick.
Surprisingly the lacking flight performance above all else breaks it’s spine.

Aim9M is a good missile, especially in game modes with no aircraft markers.

It’s an ambush missile. R-73 does both with also thw short range capability.

I would swap Aim9M for a Magic 2 or R-73.
No French or Russian would swap for the 9M

Now when we get ASRAAM im dropping the 2 120s and going 6 ASRAAM and 4 120s

True but even in RB it can bring doom at ranges were people do not expect a launch these days.

Or defend incorrectly. Got a good kill against a Mig-29 in the GR4 with a Aim-9M because he just spammed flares without doing anything else.

Su-30 can only pull more AoA when your slow. 800km/h or lower. That thing its a brick ATM. It can only pull 7-8g when your going fast. So Dunno from were that copium that it can pull more come from. Also 27sm can only pull 2g more than su-30sm.

Fox3 you write its just another copium. If you ever got kill by a R-77-1 on altitud/range. Its literally your fault. Not the missile being better than AMRAAM. I’ve see people literally turning into the Missile when the thing its hanging on the sky.

The Su-30sm/R-77-1 will never be the best long range missile you people copium about. The su-30sm its a slow plane. It will never launch a missile at M1.6+ at 8000km+ alt. Like Typhoon, Rafale or F-15.

Just compare; Me on the Su-30sm trying to launch something at BVR. While that F-15 its 10km in front of me at 2.5km more alt.

Spoiler

The satisfaction of launching R-27ET on a radar locked target which is hugging the ground.

The desperate last second furile dumping of flares…

Wonderful.
